Masked gang hit gold shop for B33m

UBON RATCHATHANI: Five masked and armed men drove off with more than B31.5 million baht in gold in a raid yesterday morning on a gold shop in Isarn city of Ubon Ratchathani, near the border with Laos and Cambodia.

Pol Lt Pattarawut Siripru, a duty officer at Ubon Ratchathani City police station, said the five, armed and wearing ski masks, barged into the gold shop as it was being opened by three staff at 6am.

They handcuffed the staff and forced them to disclose the code for the shop’s safe.

After taking 1,500-baht-weight of gold bars and jewellery, valued at more than B31.5 million baht, and another B1.5 million in cash from the safe, one of the gang tampered with the shop’s closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to destroy evidence of the crime.

The armed suspects then threatened staff, warning them not to call the police, before taking off on motorcycles.

Their CCTV precautions were in vain, however. Police later arrested one of the suspects, Sarawut Ketkul, who confessed he gave the stolen cash to his girlfriend, Orachorn Kongmalai.

Orachorn was arrested not long after, and the B1.5 million in cash was recovered.

Police were able to get the names of the other gang members and are hunting for them.

He grassed all the others as well. The Thai police really get their man when they want to. Well done.

Does anyone know which gold shop it was?

So arrest the girlfriend too since she received the cash she was in on it. And the gang are probably cops themselves

Does anyone know which gold shop it was?

It is the one that is shuttered up today and won't be open for business for a while. biggrin.png

Somewhere by Big C according to this. It looks like it might be the brand new one on the corner of all the new phone shops on the SW side.

Of course no insider involved. -wai2.gif
