Brazil Travel Report
Flew from the falls to Salvador. Def check in on the early side in Brazil. Little English is spoken, check in systems and long lines are very variable. Flights aren't cheap ($300 one way). Booked into the Wish Hotel De Bahia, a 60's modernist semi-masterpiece with lots of bass-relief murals and old fixtures ($120 a night). I booked it way early and the hotel did sell out. Check in took 40 minutes, a very Brazilian experience. The hotel guests were 80% Brazilian, the rest mainly from N. America. Only one other option there for a full service hotel ($350 a night, old mansion). I was afraid to pull the trigger on one of the very small hotels in the old historic district ($40-ish), due to fear of crime, which is def way overstated on Reddit. 'Wish I did, since The Wish Hotel had a truly terrible restaurant; about 80% of the food comes out of the deep fryer. $3 Havana Club 7 year old-shots tho, and lots of aperitif-type cocktails in a bar setting that Connery-Bond would have felt very comfortable in. Lovely guitar lady doing all the Bossa Nova hits you almost remember. Paying for a drink takes a half hour and involves multiple staff members. The electricity kept flipping on and off, the internet too. Unless you're in the historic center, there's not a lot of places to walk to, given the traffic and very few traffic light crossings. If São Paulo felt (a bit -don't go crazy) like a more urban Mex City, Salvador is a less depressing Havana. Lots of old stores selling wigs, lots of street food of the very deep fried variety. The locals are very mixed between Portuguese and full-on, undiluted African. I have never seen such visually interesting people in my life. -

Pita Limjaroenrat represents everything good about Thailand and what Thailand can become. Intelligent, educated and transparent. He is a positive role model for young people. Unlike so many others who were elected to political office, he had experience in running a business, and more importantly in taking a failing business and turning it profitable again through good management practices. best of all he was an honest politician, in it for love of his country and of genuinely to effect positive change. The ruling cabal banned him for a decade in a selfish attempt to protect themselves, but there will be more like Pita in the future. They are trying to hold back progress. The longer they hold it back, the greater the force for change. Pita is the future and a man of great courage and resolve.- 1

Sorry to hear that..... Maybe the helmet could have made a difference - too late now and I doubt any other around will learn. In Laws recently had an accident - Small impact, Airbags went off... FiL injured... no seatbelt. It was the Airbag that hurt him..... I've been telling them for years to wear an airbag.... but nope.... they sit 'on' the seatbelt (done up) to stop the car dinging.... they refuse to listen. Ironically, when they get in my car, they put the seatbelt on automatically, as I refuse to move until they do so. So... tonight... first time we've seen them since the accident - FiL wants to show me his injuries... I asked him if he was wearing a seatbelt - Nope... I don't him the injuries are his own fault then... later on they leave and get in their new car... Nope... no seatbelt - not chance of them doing that... Lovely people - but eff me.... for the life of me I cannot understand how educated and seemingly intelligent people can be so obtuse. -

They may them the minimum Thai wage, don't house them in 'labor camps' then ? These 'kind Thai Immigration officers' allow this because the business pay them to turn a blind eye..... there's money in it.... And schools for the children of migrant workers - high educational establishments they area (but I agree, better than being left in the labor camp with no supervision).... At least until the factory or buidling site is next raided... all the illegals and family get rounded up, pay the fine, get sent home... then get back in the queue to return to Thailand, pay the bribes the fees, get back to their sub-minimum wage job and start the cycle again... ... meanwhile they can;'t complain about their treatment as they'll get thrown out again. Yes... those kind Thai's.... Agreed.... money earned gets sent back - but only because doing things this way profits Thai business for if they had to pay the legal minimum wage, this would stop immediately. I see the same being done in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi, Oman - exactly the same model, though the migrant workers are of different nationalities. In 2023 the UK spent US$ 14,325,513,800 on foreign aid ($14.3 Billion) In 2023 Thailand spent US$ 1,200,000,000 on foreign aid ($1.2 Billion) - thats 12x less than the UK.... Now... I'm not suggesting that Thailand is terrible and the UK is great, as there are other facets that influence the aid agreements.... and its commendable that Thailand is giving a large sum away as foreign aid... .. But to 'suggest' the UK government does nothing for these people is incorrect, it highlights a fundamental flaw in your bias - it present the probability that you are just an uneducated, uninformed liar working of their emotion and bias to present a flawed argument that can so readily be picked apart as with any other argument you present that its hardly worth responding to.... ... in fact the only reason I am responding is not to re-educate yourself, you are clearly beyond that - but to highlight the outrageous flaws in your 'one liners' and claims which serve one singular purpose... ... to further bury yourself into deeper into that hole of fully trollish idiots who know nothing but are some how so invested in their delusion that they just do not know what the don't know... and are unable to comprehend that there is information out there of which they are unaware... ....... the short term is 'idiot' - but I've taken the lengths to explain why that is so glaringly obviously to anyone else but yourself - and it is this why so many people accuse you of being a troll.... for stupid people are far more rare than trolls. So... you can make up total BS that 'these people been gifted an opportunity to not only lift themselves out of poverty, but the money earned gets sent back to the home countries helping millions more people, often elderly people'.... But its polished rubbish.... Its not an opportunity at all - its exploitation.... and you're a fool for not being able to recognise that. -

The number of people crossing the border has been significantly reduced and if the trend continues, should be better than when Trump was in office , excluding the period when the borders were closed because of Covid. The numbers could have been reduced even further if Trump had not blocked the bipartisan funding Bill from passing. Trump wanted the border crisis so that he could have an issue for the election campaign. -
