solar water heater, anyone using one ?

Featured Replies

I am interested to know more about the solar water heaters. I have seen some postings already but not from people who actually own one.

if you own one, are you happy with it ?

I own one. Made myself. Heats 750 liters in one day to 65 degrees. If no sun after a week I still have water from around 42 degrees. I am very happy with it.

the water stays warm inside the tank for up to a week ?

I have owned four solar water heaters.

First one was home made. worked fine.

Second was an all plastic piece of crap.

Third and by far the best was a "Solar Edwards" 305L

Fourth one I inherited when I bought the house I now live in, it's a Solarhart, works fine but you need to change the sacrificial rod every 4-5 years. And the teapot who installed it had it facing West, so for two months over winter I have to leave the electrical boost on.(Sun is too low in the sky)

All these have been in Australia.

Warm yes, hot no. Like I said when the water temp. is 65 degrees on start, after one week without sun it is about 42 degrees. It starts with 750 liter. We use about 40 liter daily and the tank is very well isolated

Do you have any pictures of the build ? And how much did it cost you to build it ?

Have to admit I'm keen to try, but the prices I'm seeing for 300L pressurized units are about around 5x the sum of their parts (60K up) by my estimates. I'm just too Thai to give someone that much profit ;)

seems like the Thai import from China . Has anybody imported a solar water heater from China, if so from which company ?
