@overherebc - I tried to use my Kasikorn Debit Card for my UK Passport renewal, via HKG, but it was declined.

I then used my "Virtual Card/Internet Shopping Card" and that worked.

I got an email from HKG informing me the debit card was declined and then sent the virtual card details and they responded that it went through.

Would it be possible to use my wifes amex card ?

Yes she would give permission.

No, they don't take Amex.

If you bank with Kasikorn you can apply for their WebShopping card online, that just gives a credit card number but without the physical card, it takes 24 hours to set up, and it worked for me earlier this year.

Out of interest, was it the bank that declined to pay in HK or the Embassy in HK that rejected the Debit card ?

When the guy from HKG contacted me, who was very helpful, he said there was an issue with Debit Cards from some Thai banks, when the number is keyed an rather swiped, they do say "electronic use only".

I did call Kasikorn, who to be honest were no help, they did confirm that there had been no request for authorisation. The only advice they offered was that I increase my transaction limit, it was already 100,000 Baht.

As I say the virtual card went through.

Will probably try that way.

What's the latest on turn round times from post to Hongkong to receipt of new passport.

I will DHL it I think.

I sent mine EMS and it was there in a couple of days, you can track it all the way.

I got my new passport ten days after my card was processed, that was back in April.

HKG does it all electronically, they almost just press a button and it's then printed in the UK and dispatched.

Apart from the price, I thought it was a very good service.

In order to use your credit card internationally you need to ask the bank to give you a "V.b.V" number, (Verified by Visa) once you have that number then the card is use-able anywhere including abroad.
