Lite Beer
Egg prices in 2013 increase by 11% due to animal feed and labour costsBANGKOK, 22 Nov 2013 (NNT) - The Office of Agricultural Economics (OAC) has revealed the average cost for eggs this year stands at 2.87 baht each, an 11% increase compared to last year. The office attributed the hike to the weather, rising labor cost and animal feed prices. The figure was revealed by the Subcommittee on Capital Costs of Hens and Eggs chaired by the Vice Secretary and Spokesman of the OAC, Surasak Pannop.According to Mr. Surasak, the main reason behind the sharp rise is the changing weather which has affected health of farm hens. He added that the increased price of animal feed and hens as well as the rising labor cost also contributed to the higher egg cost.He said that during its latest meeting last week the subcommittee observed that the average cost of egg continuously rose from 2.66 baht in the first quarter to 2.86 baht in the second quarter, 2.92 baht in the third quarter and would probably end up at 3-3.02 baht in the last quarter.Mr. Surasak said nonetheless that the prices remain fluctuating depending on the situation in each period of the year. He gave examples that prices of egg would drop during the vegetarian festival and school breaks as the demand for eggs decreases. On the other hand, the egg demand tends to rise during long weekends which in turn raise the egg prices. -- NNT 2013-11-

Lite Beer
Student protesters demand PM resignation Activists of the Network of Students and People for the Reform of Thailand today marched to the street calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her entire cabinet ministers over what they called the serious error in forwarding the controversial legislation to the King for endorsement despite of its pending ruling by the Constitutional Court. The protesters marched from Makkawan bridge along the Rajdamnern Nok Avenue to Phitsanulok road towards the sealed off barricade to Government House. The protesters stopped at the line of the concrete barricade and their leader Uthai Yodmanee then read its statement calling for the resignation of the prime minister and her entire cabinet ministers. They strongly attacked the prime minister over her hush-hush submission of the charter amending regarding the composition of the Senate to His Majesty the King for royal endorsement despite the fact that the legislation remained in question and was due to be interpreted by the Constitutional Court over its constitutionality.Although the legislation was approved by both the lower and upper houses, they still said it was inappropriate to forward the disputed legislation for royal approval. The statement also attacked the performance of her government which constituted serious errors and was creating massive damages to the country. They submitted the statement and letter calling for the resignation of the prime minister to a government representative before returning to their place at Makkawan bridge.
