So someone must have one. I'm seriously thinking of getting one for my wife and no doubt I'll fiddle with it as well. Yes I know that it is expensive and so are the add-ons!.

I wondering if it runs hot especially if watching UKTV-Asia .. My laptop certainly struggles when download from there.

Any views/opinions other than it's '''kin expensive

Thanks

I hope the 2014 edition is better than the previous one, which had an abominable battery life. On stand-by my battery was empty after 6 hours. Unusable.

I replaced it with an iPad Air with 128 GB. Battery life is a light year better.

But I can't get used to the IOS, I really prefer Android.

I've had a Note 10.1 for about 9 months now...or I should say my wife has a Note 10.1 I bought for her. We use it in Wifi mode only; no SIM installed. Anyway, in "constant" use such as YouTubing she gets around 4-5 hours...and she can indeed youtube that long looking at Thai celebrity videos....in standby it practically don't use any any power...she always turns it off at night...maybe recharges it every few days when she only uses it a few hours each day. Me thinks you must have had the note setup to never allow it to go into full standby mode...maybe the Wifi was always on...or some App really sucking the power....or maybe a bad battery....who knows. I just know the wife's Note 10.1 battery life is fine (knock on wood).

I've been looking for a new tablet and am very tempted by this unit. It is widely available here so easy to play with one in many shops.

It simply blows away the previous version, with 2560x1600/299 PPI, so no real comparison - the original Note had 1280x800/149 PPI. I like the design, feel, faux-leather back - but many do not. There is a ton of bloat-ware - which I'd likely ditch - and the UI seemed slightly/unexpectedly sluggish - this can be an issue with floor units even if you re-start them.

The local MSRP is 20,900. Currently there is a promotion on this unit (SM-P6010: 16 GB + 3G) at IT City for 18,900. They are offering 2,000 baht off on several higher-end Samsung smartphones and tablets, cash or CC, this month. (I was in the IT City in Mega Bang Na yesterday.)

I'm looking for just the WiFi-only variant, so may purchase it in the U.S. ( $549 free shipping, no sales tax, so all in ). But I am also thinking about a Nexus 10 as this unit is quite a bit less expensive ahead of the release of the new Nexus 10.

O.K guys ... we bought one about a week ago. Decided to buy it direct from Samsung. Also bought a 64GB chip (class 10) and one of those covers that will also support it while in use. It wasn't the Samsung cover but was bought from their shop.

So it was 20900Baht +3000Baht for chip and 700Baht for the cover. Samsung loaded a lot of extra stuff, probably never needed ... anyway it's there. Now apparently one of the local small shops offered it at 19900baht, but could be a here today, gone tomorrow place so opted for a little safety.

Gee, it seems to have some wonderful features but will be obsolete by the time I understand many of them .. I have found quite a lot on the internet including Samsung Galaxy Tab for Dummies. The seller said any problems or anything you don't understand just come back and ask ... we could camp out there!!!

Madam seems very happy with it and I might be able to get away with it as a Wedding Anniversary/Christmas and New Year present (after 11 years she has given up waiting for gold) smile.png . Seems that there has been a lot on Facebook about the protest, it's a wonder that she hasn't worn it out yet.

l plan to buy this unit next week at the Samsung shop in Paragon BKK.

I have the SEP-DEC Samsung catalog in front of me now. It is listed at 16,900b. Not 20,900.

Is 16,900b the price for the previous version ?

And 20,900b for the 2014 ?

Puzzled !!

Yes.

Believe the MSRP on the Samsung Note 10.1 - 2014 edition (SM-P6010: 16 GB + 3G) is 20,900.

As I mentioned, IT City, a huge, national computer/electronics retailer here in Thailand with branches everywhere, is offering a 2,000 baht discount on this and several other units like the Note 3, so 18,900 net (includes 7% VAT).

I think there are still some first gen. Note 10.1's (N8000) stuck in the channel: Jaymart/TGFone has them for 16,900; box shops as low as 13,800.

OK. Thanks !

I'll have a go at the IT City in BKK then.

It's where I've bought all my PCs and laptops over the years.

Be careful what you get, because mine ... well my wifes!! Is the32GB model and not the 16GB model you guys say IT City are selling. So to confirm 32GB Model .. +64GB micro SD + bookstand cover was 20900+3000+800 came to 24700Baht (wifi+3G+LTE)... as I said we were offered something cheaper at another shop but I didn't enquire the spec. Looking at About Device it just says SM-P601 and 4.3 0002

We had to go to the Samsung shop this morning ... a little mis-understanding over how to do something!! I asked about the 16GB model ... the guy said that there were no plans to bring anything to Thailand other than the 32GB model.

Whilst my wife was getting a teach-in I wondered up to IT City (5th Floor) and all I could find was the attached at 14900Baht ... the GT-5200

post-17329-0-64774800-1386917007_thumb.p .... so I hope you get the 2014 edition at 18900Baht, I couldn't see it there ... this was in Ngan Wong Wan Mall

Note that the SM-P601 variant - I got the model number wrong (the model number on bar-code has a "SMP6010" so that may be what threw me off), does NOT support LTE; you'd need the SM-P605 for LTE support, not that you need LTE here. Also note that the SM-P601 variant is limited to 21 Mbps HSUPA, again not a big deal in the scheme of things. The SM-P600 variant is WiFi only.

The model no. from the bar-code on the box is "SMP6010ZKETHL". The baseband is P601XXUBMJ8.

I had a chance to visit a fair number of shops today: Samsung, IT City, PowerBuy, TGfone in a number of malls. Each and every shop has the official Samsung localized SM-P601 variant with 32 GB of internal storage. This includes IT City. This makes sense as I doubt Samsung Thailand wanted to stock multiple variants, including color. I think I got confused with some SM-P600 variants I was looking at in the U.S. – those were 16 GB.

So net/net, if you want to save 2,000 baht you can feel safe buying at IT City as they have the SM-P601/32 GB version, although one location was sold out of the White-color model already. If you don’t want to save 2,000 baht then feel free to pay 20,900. I assume the 2,000 baht promotion is a spiff, either by Samsung or the distributor or the shop.

Also, at these larger shops like IT City they do have the VAT Refund for Tourists program, so you may be able to wrangle another 7% off at the airport on departure.

I like the look and feel of the unit but the UI remains a bit balky, slow which again may be due to all the bloat-ware Samsung adds on?

Yes, the Tab 3 10.1 is a completely different beast, and the MSRP is 14,900.

I just bought one this afternoon at the Samsung flagship store in Paragon/BKK.

Display price 20,900b but they gave an unasked surprise discount of 1,500b so I paid 19,400b !! biggrin.png

They didn't have the 64GB microSD I wanted so I bought that one from Jaymart - a SanDisk 2,900b.

Also they didn't have any cover for it so I'll try to find one in Pattaya next week.

To tell the truth I only plan to use it to read books and watch VDO on my balcony in the afternoon.

That's why I chose that new Samsung model above all the other similar tablets because it is reported to have an outstanding screen.

I have had the original Note 10.1 for about 9 months now....no problems, My kids love it and I like the big screen to show videos to the kids when i visit remote areas. Pity about the 16 gb then but the 32 now is good. I do much photography and upload my videos to Youtube in their original mov/m2ts 1080 formats...then download them using the free Yt downloader in mp4 format and HD (720) which work great on my Notes (I have the Note 1, 2 & 3...old models being handed to my kids..)

I have the 64gb card in my Note 10.1 but only 32gb cards in my phones...glad the Note 3 has a 32 gb internal.

Of course the Note 10.1 felt a bit sluggish compared to my phones...but the 2014 version is probably up there with the Note 2.

You should have a later version of Android too. I doubt if the old one will update...and my Note 2 only just updated to 4.3 last week.
