BANGKOK: -- The National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) today rejected the invitation by the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order to observe the police operations in keeping peace and order in the country.

NACC spokesman Vicha Mahakhun said the CAPO has invited the NACC to appoint a representative to observe its operations to keep and order at various locations of the capital where demonstrations were held, and also to give advice to CAPO.

But Mr Vicha said that the NACC is an independent organization under the Constitution.

Its main task is to prevent and suppress corruption, and asset examination.

He said that the CAPO has to perform duties in according with regulations, laws and stick to the rule of law under the Constitution.

He said NACC was empowered merely to supervise that the CAPO has performed its duty within the laws, or does not ignore the duties.

He said observation of the police operation and giving advice is not the duty of the NACC.

Earlier the CAPO spokesman said the NACC would be invited to observe the police operations in handling of the current demonstration. This was to ascertain that the police would keep to international standards in using tear gas and other softer means to deal with the demonstrators.

Perhaps the UN could assist in monitoring their activities instead ... not sure Thaksin would approve tho based on his previous statements about them however.

What, that they could inspect whenever they wanted?

If the NACC is to supress corruption why are they not doing their job? Yinny and Co would have been LONG GONE.

It was a slightly sarcastic posting, but I was referring to this: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/NOT-MY-FATHER-Thaksin-retracts-UN-jibe-75037.html

and Sutheps' words: "I don't respect farangs" in response to the Reds request for foreign observers in the polling stations during the 2011 elections.

From meeting him I can attest that he does not like foreigners. Although I met him once and briefly (and all of the other players personally, I play comedy and we regularly before all these politicians, I have met every pm since Chuan Leekpai and even some from before him!)

Which puts me in a twist. I detest the Shin clan (also met most of them, more than once PTP likes comedy) and everything they stand for. I do like Chatchart (the transport minister) but I prefer Korn of all the people that I have met.

So at this moment although I am in favour of Yingluck et clan oak pai, I would hate to see Suthep being the man in charge :(

I suppose the people, who have organized all this, will drop him once the People's council is installed.

Yup, that good ol' xenophobia is alive and well.
