Bangkok to London then Amsterdam, cheaper, can I leave plane at London?

Featured Replies

Hi, checking the prices to London, premium economy, leaving last week in May and returning first week in June. BA are quoting approx 48500bht direct to London (return) and 43500 to Amsterdam via London, (return). Its the same BA flight to London and return with just an extra flight to Amsterdam, prob KLM. Quotes are from Cheap Tickets.co.th

Has anyone tried booking the flight to AMS, leaving at London and catching the return leg from London, can this be done? Merry Christmas...

No, can not be done. Besides practical issues (luggage) you will be refused boarding in London since you did not complete the first part of your ticket.

I've done Middle East to Paris via London and stopped off in London on route in the past.

Would it work if the OP broke the journey in London and, when finished in UK, flew London/Amsterdam/London to home?

Would depend on the ticket.

Skipping one leg (in this case London-Amsterdam) voids the rest of the ticket, so to answer the original question: No, it cannot be done.

However, considering that you leave last week of May and return first week of June, there is a possibility to do stopovers on the way. It may be possible to do an up to 48 hours stopover in London, then fly Lon-Ams-Lon and then have another stopover in London again before flying back to Thailand. The stopovers cannot normally be booked from the net, they have to be negotiated with the airline's ticket office, and sometimes (if it is obvious you are doing it only for the cheaper price) they refuse it altogether.

@OP:

try to book both legs separately.

On the trip to Amsterdam, you can leave in London, but your luggage will probably be checked through to Amsterdam.

For the trip back, since you board in London, just start that leg in London, because you won't be allowed to board in London if you purchase a ticket for a trip starting in Amsterdam.

And I do think there should be a law against such practices if it's really due to the airline, but I guess it is due to London airport taxes and service fees, but I'm not too sure of that, because flights from London are usually cheaper than from anywhere else.

Hi thanks for the replys, only going back for a short trip for mums birthday so only travel with hand luggage, have tried the suggestions but always comes out more expensive. Strange scenario....

Cathay-Pacific has some "Open Jaw" ticket plans that allow for segmented travel. Check them out.
