Maybe there will be some hope for those of us who rely on AN.

Overseas footy fans could be short-changed

FANS in the Asia Pacific are facing a battle to watch regular AFL matches following confirmation that funding to the ABC's Australia Network will be cut.

The federal government confirmed the move in its budget announcement on Tuesday night in Canberra.

The future of the channel remains up in the air, with the government not ruling out a commercial operator taking over the spectrum, which broadcasts Australian television content to approximately 44 countries.

Australia Network currently broadcasts up to four games each round via satellite into homes and hotels.

The broadcasts are particularly popular with tourists and expatriates.

"Fans in the Asia Pacific will still be able to watch AFL matches via the Australia Network until further notice," an AFL spokesman said on Wednesday.

The AFL is working on alternate means to transmit games into the region.

"In the meantime, the AFL is in ongoing discussions with the ABC regarding the options available for continuation of television coverage of AFL matches into the Asia/Pacific market, reflecting its significance to our code and the growth of Australian football internationally," the spokesman said.

"AFL Fans in the Asia Pacific should also note that all AFL matches and AFL highlights are available via WatchAFL, the international streaming service that allows people to view every game live or on demand on their desktop, mobile or tablet."

What they fail to mention is that the AFL subscription service is exactly that, a pay per view or subscription service. Whereas most, if not, all of us who subscribe to CTH or True receive the Australian Network as part of a subscribed package, so trumping up another $150 a year to watch every game live and uninterrupted live is great, it's a bit disingenuous of the AFL to say "well, but we have an alternative"

This AFL tipping websites doing my head in, I was crowing last night (given I was in Adelaide) that they'd got up given if tipped them (or so I'd thought). Though checked last night and <deleted>, nothing, tip not registered. Similar thing happened back in the Anzac round against Essendon. <deleted> Collingwood!

I must admit that when you posted "22 point winners for the Crows.. That'll do me!"

I thought you'd picked them.

Sorry to say I had a chuckle when I saw you hadn'tbiggrin.png

Good news is the Swans up by 43 points over Essendon at halftime

50 point winners and a lot to like tonight all over the field.

Essendon came out and gave it their all in the midfield and defence but couldn't do a lot.

Tippet with 3

The real test for sydney will be the next 3 games after the bye. Geelong, Gold Coast and Port. They win those 3 and they would fancy another flag this year

I still think if all sides in the top 4 remain fit at finals times, there's only a bee's dick in it.

The jury is (probably unfairly) still out for me on Port against the big bodied sides at the moment.

Having said that, if they finish top 2 and get 2 home finals, they will be hard to beat. It might just

come down to where you finish in the top 4 and an ounce of luck.

Sydney have looked frightening lately, Hawks have 4 or 5 out and a big test for Geelong tonight.

I have downgraded my expectations for WCE from top 8 to 10 to 12sad.png

West Coast need to perform against some of the top sides like they did against GWS but i'm not sure they are as low as 10-12?

Port have a dream run home really. They play a injury hit Hawthorn next and also play Sydney twice, and Freo once. Other than that they really only have Collingwood and GC. The Sydney games will be a big test for them.

Freo have a decent run after Geelong, but in the last 4 rounds they meet Hawks, Geelong, Port

Sydney have a great last 4 rounds. Port, St Kilda, Bulldogs, Richmond

For me the top 5 teams are Hawks, Geelong, Port, Freo and Sydney.

The Geelong V Freo game will give a good indication of where both those teams are at. Freo at home, and we can expect a hell of a lot of pressure from them.

Swans put contracts on hold over cost of living allowance uncertainty

THE SYDNEY Swans have been forced to put player contract negotiations on hold for the past month as they wait for the AFL to rule on how extensively their controversial cost-of-living allowance will be cut from 2015.

Swans football manager Dean Moore told AFL.com.au the club had frozen ongoing player contract negotiations last month and would not start negotiations with other out-of-contract players until the new COLA rules were announced.

"At the moment we effectively don't know what our TPP (total player payments) is for next year, but in saying that the player managers don't know what it is either," Moore said.

"So it is difficult, if not impossible, with that uncertainty to move forward with contracts.

"There are four or five guys that we are in discussions with that are immediately affected, but that number will obviously increase if this were to drag on."

Moore said the disruption to the Swans' contract negotiations was "not a major worry" and expected an AFL announcement on the new COLA scheme was "imminent".

Swans players set to come out of contract at the end of this year include free agents Adam Goodes, Nick Malceski, Ryan O'Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, along with Mike Pyke, Rhyce Shaw, Craig Bird, Harry Cunningham, Alex Johnson, Jordan Lockyer, Tim Membrey and Xavier Richards.

Anyone else think Melbourne is a chance over Richmond this week?

I don't.

I think Ade are a big chance against Collingwood though.

Don't forget to get the tips in early guys due to a game this Thursday night.

If only I had followed my own tip and your tip Khun Will i'd be two more up this round. sad.png

Some very good play from Melbourne, but Richmond...shocking kicking facepalm.gif .

MELB: 14.7.91

RICH: 9.20.74

Melb is a different side from the one I watched, and laughed at, last year when the players mainly stood around waiting for the easy ball to come out.

At the risk of sounding a bit Yellow Brick Road, they seem to have gotten their heads in the right place and developed courage at the ball. Still not the most skilful side around, but they're heading in the right direction

Kudos to Roos.

Melbourne was a bloody good tip mate, well done.

Richmond will come in for some well deserved heat next week

one would imagine. They've gone from 5th to 16th.

Hardwick might be lucky to see out the season if they don't improve.

Here we go here we go here we go...................ive been telling you guys for eons, we have been getting high draft picks for a long time some good some not so good but the main point is after Daniher it was obvious even to me ( and mind you we had been making finals etc in those days) we needed and experienced coach.

Baily wanted to play s sth aussie style that Blight got rid of and Needel didnt have a clue.

The Dees are hard at it tough where it counts and have been all season just the lack of forwards has stopped is picking up one or two more wins.

Roo's i hope will stick around.

With the Australia Network to be scrapped soon (Anyone know when?) where are we going to be able to watch the AFL?

Halftime Freo V Geelong. Freo up by 30 points. They restricted Geelong to zero goals in the first quarter. Pavlich playing his 300th game and has now scored 601 goals. Back to the game.

Game over.

Freo built on last weeks midfield form and i'd say that is their turnaround game for the year. Freos midfield was dominant and they continually found space and marked inside their 50 often uncontested or one on one

Geelong never looked like winning.

Suggestions for good seating?

Guys, I am taking the GF to her first AFL game. Hopefully the Swans V GC game at Metricon stadium in a few weeks. ($40-50 a ticket! <deleted>?)

Where would you suggest i get seats for her? Close to the boundary, near the centre of the ground? behind goals? In the stands?

She doesn't know the rules too well but she will enjoy the experience as a first

Took my lady to her first game (WCE v ESS) about 7 years ago.

Because she's short, we got a slightly elevated position on the wing near the centre.

I remember at quarter time I went and got 2 drinks, 2 hotdogs and a bag of chips.

When I told her it was $25, she nearly had a heart attack.

Needless to say, when we went to the WACA for a day/nighter, the esky

was packed with homemade stuffbiggrin.png

If you can get tickets somewhere near the boundry line around the wing - behind the goals is annoying and you don't really get a good feel for the game and or near the end of the aisle (makes for easy access for the beer wench hahaha ;)) you'll be set for a winning time.

Food and Beverage at football grounds have been notorious money spinners and also serving shit beer. Being in QLD you're probably going to be subjected to XXXX Gold which is palatable for the first couple of schooners.
