Agencies crack down on abortion-pill websites
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Thursday announced a crackdown on nine websites found to be selling abortion-inducing drugs including Cytolog, Misoprostol, MTPill and Mifepristone.

DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said the joint investigation and sting operation led to the arrest in Nakhon Pathom of two suspects - Somchai Sunancharoen, 48, who allegedly kept a storage facility for the drugs, and Wiroj Angkurawanit, 30, who allegedly ran the nine websites.

The DSI also seized from Somchai's house 120 drug sets with instructions in ready-to-send packages; 2,008 pills worth Bt1 million; and empty boxes that once contained 30,000 pills, which had already been sent off.

Tarit said the websites had operated for over a year and had catered to 20,000 customers during June-December alone, reportedly earning Bt4 million a month.

Dam_n Somchai again.....!!!.His name comes up everywhere!

How dare he try and stop unwanted pregnancies...

"...catered to 20,000 customers during June-December alone..."

Now, if the authorities would be that committed to making absentee fathers (AKA sperm donors) take responsibility for the pregnancies they cause, perhaps they would take more safety precautions. Thus eliminating the necessity for so many abortions.

Thank Lord Buddha they have found the root of all Thai problems and eradicated it!

Now the country can progress in peace. Amen.

Who says fascism and democracy don't mix.

everyone

The proper payoffs weren't made.

Agreed, thats the problem with e-commerce. No police payoffs. Better use more anonymous proxies when dealing with risky internet business ventures.

Educate people on "sex", make abortion legal and <deleted> get the "fathers" to accept responsibility and you don't need to "crackdown" on websites!

DSI chief Tarit Pengdith said... and that's when I stopped reading the article.

So now the only solution for all these poor girls is the canal ?

It's beyond belief how governments try to interfere with people's personal lives.

yeah and they will crackdown facebook soon, eh? Since that makes you get the pregnant. :P

Who says fascism and democracy don't mix.

I think you mean fascism and capitalism.

The proper payoffs weren't made.

There could have been a payoff when they were busted ... but apparently there wasn't. Yes there's a lot of corruption but not every single cop every single time ... apparently.

So now the only solution for all these poor girls is the canal ?

Yeah ... no government interference until there's a personal need for the police, firefighter, medical aid, retirement benefits, etc., etc., etc.

Somchai was also responsible for those unwanted pregnancies, I heard.

the crackdown means the pills will have to be ordered as before from women rights organizations on the internet...
