Protest leader says Feb 2 election must be put off



BANGKOK: -- People’s Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban said today that the upcoming general election scheduled on February 2 must be put off if the democratic reform could not be accomplished in time.

He also said that at the public forum hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, he would led a team of 20 PDRC to attend and clarify all military top brass and the private sector so that they could make their decision whether to side with the people or with the caretaker government.

Speaking to a large group of local and foreign media at the “Meet the Press” session, Suthep said that the general election on February 2 was not an urgent matter and must be put off if the People’s Council is not yet formed.

He said the People’s Council is more important to reform the country than the election which is still unnecessary if the people’s council was not ready yet.

He also said that to achieve the reform, caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra must step down as caretaker role as well as her cabinet to pave the way for the appointment of a well respected and trusted person to be the prime minister under Article 3 of the Constitution.

Constitutionally, it can't be put off: The election has to be held no more than 60 days after the King issues the dissolution decree. Suthep would be himself in violation of Article 68 if he pushed for that (if he isn't already).

No person shall exercise the rights and liberties prescribed in the Constitution to overthrow the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State under this Constitution or to acquire the power to rule the country by any means which is not in accordance with the modes provided in this Constitution.

In the case where a person or a political party has committed the act under paragraph one, the person knowing of such act shall have the right to request the Prosecutor General to investigate its facts and submit a motion to the Constitutional Court for ordering cessation of such act without, however, prejudice to the institution of a criminal action against such person.

In the case where the Constitutional Court makes a decision compelling the political party to cease to commit the act under paragraph two, the Constitutional Court may order the dissolution of such political party.

Suthep says early election will see same corrupted parliament



BANGKOK: -- Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban reiterated his call for the postponement of the February 2 general election saying early election while democratic reform is still underway would only bring about corrupted people back to the parliament.

Speaking to media representatives at the first official “Meet the Press” session, the People’s Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general said that election was not an urgent matter.

He said if it was held on its February 2 schedule, corrupted politicians would return to Parliament and power and conflict could resurface on and on with no ending.

He then said this it had to be put off.

Commenting on tomorrow’s public forum hosted by the Royal Thai Armed Forces at its headquarters, Suthep said that he would use the session to explain the will of the PDRC to the top brass to reform the country to true constitutional democracy.

This would be important for them to make their own decision of what they should do after listening to all the explanations, he said, adding there was no pressure on them. They could make their own decision.

When asked on the proposed national reform committee by the caretaker prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Suthep recalled past national reform committees she appointed had all failed because she had no sincerity for true reform.

He said all committee heads namely Banharn Silpa-archa, Uthai Pimchaichon and Bhicha Rattakul have all resigned from the committee after knowing of the insincere intention for change as she repeatedly said.

Suthep said that Ms Yingluck now has no accountability in what she said or promised, adding that she should stop buying time to stay on.

Fortunately, Gerrymandering isn't a huge problem in Thailand: Part of the vote is proportional, and outside of Bangkok most constituencies are either clearly red or clearly yellow anyway, to the north and south respectively.

Suthep/Democrats Democracy - Is a form of government where Mighty Suthep / Democrats elected themselves through force, coup, protest, against all possible laws and Constitution, because they couldn't in any other way.

I asked some days ago which balanced source we should read for have an unbiased opinion. The best I got is? Tony Cartalucci.
