Shopping malls in Siam area remain open

BANGKOK: -- Security guards of the Siam Center and the MBK shopping center malls confirmed that the department stores would be open as usual Monday morning.


The Thailand national stadium and the Bangkok Art And Culture Centre were close.

Chaiwut leads protesters to block Pathumwan Intersection

BANGKOK: -- A lot of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters started blocking the Pathumwan intersections early in the morning.


Former deputy Democrat leader Chaiwut Bannawat led the Bangkok Shutdown rally at the intersection. Academics from Chulalongkorn University and Thammasart University also joined the rally there.

Chaiwut said the PDRC leaders held a meeting after protester was shot near the Chang Wattana rally site.

Suthep's Bangkok Shutdown march starts

BANGKOK: -- Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, led a massive procession of protesters to march from the Democracy Monument at 9 am Monday.


He will lead the protesters to several rally sites in the Bangkok.

BANGKOK: -- The People's Democratic Reform Committee is organising simultaneous rallies around Bangkok to cripple it in the so-called Bangkok Shutdown operation. Here how the event has unfolded:

08.45 am: PDRC workers set up a tent and gates for entering the rally site at the Pathumwan Intersection.

9:00 am: PDRC secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban leads a huge procession of protesters to move from the Democracy Monument to other rally sites.

Thailand’s upper parts to experience another round of cold weather

BANGKOK: -- Mercury in the upper parts of Thailand will drop 5-7 degrees Celsius starting today (Monday) until Friday January 17 due to the onset of strong cold spell from China, said the Meteorological Department.

The Northeast will be the first to experience the cold weather and strong wind then it will be followed by the other regions except the southern region.

In the upper North, the lowest temperature will be 13-15 degree Celsius whereas the lower part will be a bit warmer with the lowest temperature expected at 15-17 degree Celsius. But in the mountainous areas, temperature can drop to 4-9 degree Celsius with wind speed at between 10-30 kilometres per hour.

In the Northeast, the lowest temperature ranges between 12-18 degree Celsius with strong wind whereas the maximum temperature ranges between 29-31 degree Celsius. But the mercury in the mountainous areas will drop to 6-12 degree Celsius.

The central region is cold with morning fog. Lowest temperature is estimated at between 18-20 degree Celsius but in mountainous areas temperature is predicted to drop further to 15-18 degree Celsius.

Bangkok is cool with morning fog with lowest temperature predicted at 21-22 degree Celsius. Northeasterly wind speed is estimated at 15-30 kph.
