BANGKOK: -- Transport Minister Chatchart Sitthipan has responded to the anti-government protesters' threat to detain him with a sense of humour.

Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban, leader of the People′s Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD), urged the protesters yesterday to "capture" Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and all Ministers of her government.

But Mr. Chatchart said in a Facebook post later that the PCAD protesters should make sure they would not end up arresting his twin brother, Mr. Chanchai Sitthipan.

"The only thing that worries me [about the threat] is that the protesters may be confused and arrest my twin brother instead," Mr. Chatchart wrote, adding that he had instructed his twin brother to shout loudly "This is not Chatchart! This is his twin!" if he was ever detained by the protesters.

"I will use the same trick, too," Mr. Chatchart joked.

The Minister added that he cannot stop the protesters from apprehending him, since he likes to travel on public transportation such as boats and buses to visit many areas.

In the same post, he stated that he had been visiting the northbound train route from Rangsit district to Donmueang district, before stopping at BMRT′s depot this morning.

Bus officers reportedly told Mr. Chatchart that they had experienced a decrease in number of passengers and approximately 30% loss of normal income. They also mentioned that the roads are quite empty due to ongoing PCAD protests in Bangkok.

Mr. Chatchart then visit the offices of Thai Traffic Police to meet Pol.Col. Rueangsak, Deputy Chief of the Royal Thai Police, and Pol.Maj.Gen. Jirasan, Director of Traffic Department.

Mr. Chatchart said he had praised the two police officers for working since early morning in cooperate with with the Ministry of Transport to facilitate the traffic needs of people of Bangkok.

“Overall, the traffic is still controllable, even though there are more traffics that yesterday, but less than usual”, he wrote on the Facebook post, “The protesters had been marching around to many state agencies ... and the officials have been avoiding a confrontation because it will lead to violence".

The Transport Minister also warned Bangkokians to stay alert and plan their journey before leaving their houses, and advised that the parking space provided by the Ministry is still available as an option for those who wish to park their vehicles.

I recall there have been pictures showing that the twin brother actually supports Suthep .

I reckon the twins should cooperate and wear different coloured socks for easy identification for when the snatch squad come a calling.

" No Sombat you fool! The great kamnam told me that our target would be wearing Hello Kitty socks. This dudes got Ben 10 on his!"

Mr. Chatchart need not have any fears of abduction ! Or his twin brother, for that matter - as he and everybody else fully knows.

Even though he has been an absolutely horrible transport minister. But that's another matter.

He would certainly seem to be one of the ones worth keeping when PT are dumped.

Education minister would seem to be another and the lady who looks after the women and kids, cant remember what her ministry was.

If you chucked all the parties in a heap and picked out the useful ones you could probably make a pretty good Govt out of it.

But the party system prevents that.

Hope the good ones don't get banned (tarred with same brush) when the time comes.

It is blunt, but "If the Bangkok shutdown is going to be so successful without any doubts, why is it necessary to threaten to kidnap people, shut down the stock exchange, and freeze the air traffic controllers"? And then back down from shutting down SET and Aerothai, when the powers that be tell you to shut the hell up? This shutdown has turned into the Backpedal Down!

Both sides are liars, but Suthep sounds desperate.... and slightly deranged.

I hope the leaders of both opposing sides go away, and that some moderate voice from either side steps up to the plate.

Thais deserve better than this.

Khun Chatchart really is a sincere servant of the people here. He seems fair dinkum enough with a splash o dash bout the bloke. It is a pity that other minister's aren't capable of serving their constituents in the same vein. Thumbs up for me..

Why they do not make a talk show with them.

Twin brothers, contrary opinions, young, humorous.

That would be determined entertaining.

And they might have a guest-moderator, starting with the caretaker-PM because she really really believes in reconciliation (despite her actions), followed by Suthep because he too really believes in reform & democracy (despite refusing to run in an election), then by the head of the military because he's actually the most neutral there is (refusing to coup or suppress the protesters) and so on. rolleyes.gif

He is the only one in the Please Taksin party who I ever had even a glimmer of liking. Though he has not really done anything to improve transport, at least he has publicly experienced it and made some accurate comments highlighting the problems. The story where the bus was too slow so he went home to get his chauffer driven car instead made me laugh !
