CityNews – On 18th January at 8.30 a.m. police were called by two foreigners who said they had been beaten by a group of Thai men from a karaoke bar called Krelo Club on Chang Klan Road because they refused to pay an extortionate bill.

Thailand is a very violent culture and also now have such a greed for money, just pay for your drinks individually as they arrive at table easy no big shocking bill at the end of the night, and in a place like this you can learn by your mistakes and vote with your feet where you drink and spend your money

This particular scam (or similar) happens all over the world. I've seen it happen in London and in Shanghai, so it doesn't require "a very violent" culture to happen.

That is unfortunately a nonsense statement that gets repeated here again and again. These creeps are scamming. Paying for your drinks as they arrive will not help you. You will simply be presented for an additional bill when you are about to leave, for the company of hostesses, the hostesses singing a song, giving you a shoulder massage, or whatever else they want.

Do not think you can enter into one of this ratholes thinking you will be ok if you "just pay for your drinks individually".

It's awesome how this gets justified or blamed on the victims by not paying for the drink each time it comes, lol. Why do they even bother writing you a bill? Why not just tell you to open your wallet or they're gonna beat the crap out of you??

Where will the protesters be when nothing happens to those responsible for this crime? Oh, that's right, the victim's 'not one of us' , so it's ok.

Karaoke bars in Chiang Mai are akin to jet ski's in Phuket AVOID THEM.

Exactly!

.

all 7 Karaoke's on Changklan are owened by the same dude. They only need 1 customer a night to make money.

The Tuk-tuks get a big cut if they take you to "see lady".

Seeing as thaivisa is a "going concern", maybe it can pay for display signs at all significant transport spots, saying something like: "Before you go any further, visit thaivisa.com to learn about the myriad scams in this bastion of all that is wrong with this world. Don't be a dumbass mug tourist and fall victim to scams that could cost your life. Visit us."

Signed Reformed Dumbass.

Violent culture? What a ridiculous comment. We're talking karaoke bars, not the whole of Thailand.

There are more than 7 Karaokes and they are NOT all owned by the same guy.

When I was a kid more than 20 years ago in an upstairs bar in Pat Pong. Both I and the Canadian I was with were beaten by the staff BECAUSE we wanted to pay for the first drinks when they arrived.
