BANGKOK, Jan 23 - The pro-government Red Shirt movement, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), today announced its plan to stage a mass rally nationwide Jan 29 in a move to support the Feb 2 general election.

UDD chair Thida Thavornseth reasoned that anti-government movement, the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), led by Suthep Thaugsuban, has been attempting to create conditions which could lead to a coup, combined with the heated situation after the state of emergency imposition yesterday and the shooting attack against Udon Thani-based Red Shirt leader Kwanchai Praipana.

She urged Red Shirt supporters to fight against such circumstances by joining a nationwide mass rally beginning next Wednesday, except in the capital and parts of its surrounding provinces which are under the 60-day state of emergency, in order to prevent the country from being ruled by a minority.

"The current situation is like (we) are waiting for a coup as the army has clearly stated that they will intervene if any violence occurs," said the UDD leader.

Ms Thida said provincial Red Shirt leaders will further discuss how they will mobilise the crowds and what activities will be held that day.

The UDD chair also asked her supporters across the country and in Bangkok to observe the advance polling scheduled for Sunday and collect useful information for the public.

Regarding the PDRC rallies at state offices to stop the work of civil servants despite the imposition of an emergency decree, Ms Thida called on the caretaker government to instruct security agencies to take legal action against those who violated the law to avoid further damage to the country.

Former Pheu Thai MP Vorachai Hema today condemned the attack against Kwanchai who was shot yesterday.

He also urged army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha to clarify his remarks that the military is ready to take action if situation turns violent. (MCOT online news)

So by demonstrating ourselves we will hurry this along and make sure violence will occur

Suthep is Thailand's Charlie Sheen. WINNING!!!

Last time they get 30.000 on the roads of whole Thailand for this media says, maybe 10.000 real. Foot-shot again...clap2.gif

Beats Suthep's crowd of 500 that are still left marching with him.

Great now we get more of this.........

Didn't their last rally fizzle out? If people are saying Suthep doesn't have the numbers today, the reds seem to be in worse shape.

Suthep had (6) million marchers at his rally ! cheesy.gif

Also the democrats received only (8) Million votes in the 2011 election. (5) million votes less then the winners PTP.

Bring on the election and may the best Woman win! giggle.gif

Cheers

You guys are so right. The reds have no support other than a few farmers who are too thick to deserve the right to vote.

Thaksin is the anti-christ responsible for everything bad in Thailand.

Suthep is the greatest man alive, who will save Thailand.

The government are on the brink of defeat and Yingluck and every other Shiniwatra, friends and pets will be getting on the next flight to Dubai.

Have I forgotten anything?

You forgot the.sarcastic Smiley B);):P

In the words of the late great Jackie Gleason, "And awaaaaaay we go".

To all those hoping for a confrontation in hopes that the baht collapses or just for spite to see people get hurt, nothing good will come of it. As Thailand turns upon itself, we will all be collateral damage.

interesting she still believes the reds have a support base, recent evidence of turnouts would suggest otherwise

So why are the PAD-Dem's deathly afraid of an election?

Nuff said!
