drainage system in Thai bathrooms vs the USA

Recommended Posts

one thing I have noticed about Thai bathrooms is that they have a drain on the bathroom floor while for the bathrooms in the USA they don't have them.I don't mean the drain for the shower area.I mean where the toilet bowl is located.I used to stay in an apartment in the USA and it was so difficult to clean the bathroom floor cos once you were done mopping the floor you didn't have any where else to drain the water except the toilet bowl itself. This means that you cannot just spray the bathroom floor in the USA bathroom with water. This isn't the case with Thai bathroom floors they all have a drain hole at the corner and water will drain away so you can spray water on the floor and it will drain away. I find it ridiculous that the USA doesn't even design floors with a proper drainage system. Some first world country that is.

Is this the same with bathroom floors in the UK and Europe?

What are you talking about?

My bathroom floors in the US are carpeted. There are proper tubs and showers that don't leak. The toilet doesn't leak. The sinks are in counter tops on cabinets, so you can just wipe the counter top. I have never gotten a bathroom floor wet. I do have "throw rugs" on the floor at each tub/shower to step out onto with wet feet, but I dry my feet with a towel before I step off that. The throw rugs are machine washable.

What kind of crap did you live in, in the US?

You're saying that Thai bathrooms where the shower wets everything are better?

I I stayed in a college town rented an apartment in there who knows maybe it's not as good as say Ann apartment in the city. but yoy have proven my point your shower and bath area have drains that is obvious but not the main bathroom floor. you are wrong about Thai bathrooms those types of bathrooms are the cheap kind where they use the main bathroom as the shower area. In the bathrooms of richer people and high class hotels they have a separate shower and bath area but the main bathroom area had a drain too. Take my own home. I don't need a shower curtain cos if the water comes into the floor of your main bathroom it will drain away this isn't the case in the USA cos there isn't a drain there which is stupid as Hell. I bet cleaning your barroom in the USA must be tough. Go check out Thai bathrooms with a separate shower area they have drains in the main barroom too.

Same same in UK. Some people go for what we call a wet room which is the same idea as the Thai bathroom but generally the only drains are in the sink, shower, bath and toilet. I like the Thai style wet room but I would always have a shower cubicle or at least a curtain as I don't like to get the rest of the bathroom floor soaked when i have a shower. I hate going for a pi$$ and getting my feet wet as someone just had a shower. Being from a cold country I still have a habit of wearing socks and trainers (sneakers) so I'll kick off the trainers outside and walk about in my socks, go into the bathroom and get pi$$ed because the floor is wet and now my socks are too. Starting to get used to wearing flip flops and going bear footed in the house but if I'm doing a bit of walking or riding the motorbike i need to wear my socks and trainers. I've yet to try and master the bum gun. I reckon I'd have to be naked as I'd end up spraying water everywhere. :D As for eastern style squat box toilets I have no idea how I would ever manage to use one of those. I know I'm going to have to get practicing as I plan to move to the countryside up north where the gfs family all have that style of toilet.

It's a culture difference - farang don't let their bathroom floors get wet.

It's not about getting the main bathroom floor wet cos you can keep it dry in thai bathrooms. Imagine if the bathtub overflowed with water. What happens then? Water cannot drain when it's on main bathroom. Also difficult to clean. Say you had an accident maybe pooed in the bathroom floor. Now that's hell to clean with lots of paper to mop up stuff. In thai bathrooms and maybe asian bathrooms. You open up drain spray water and some detergent it drains away. Water evaporates in mins.

Yes you don't have to get the entire bathroom floor soaked. All because the main bathroom has a drain doesn't mean it needs to be wet it just makes sure water drains away if it comes out from the shower area or the bathtub. You can also build the glass encasing thing which is found in 4 or 5 star hotels this prevents steam from getting into the rest of the bathroom.

Speaking of squat toilets do you know that the best way to have a bowel movement is through squatting because it opens up the rectal passage totally. Sitting down isn't the proper way and they actually built some type of step device for those using sit down toilets so that they can get into a squat position it was reported in some article.

What are we dealing with? Neanderthals? Isn't it nice to have a proper bathroom with a ceiling fan to pull moisture, and where you can even keep facial tissue on your counter top? How about a clock on a shelf?

There is no reason to have a wet floor, or anything else wet.

attachicon.gifIMG_1701.JPG

Carpet bathroom floor. Oh lord how difficult is that to clean? Suffice to say you don't ever spill water from the sink unto the floor? You have never missed when taking a leak and gotten it on the floor? Never been drunk and accidentally vomitted on the floor? In bathrooms with just a simple drain on the main area. You take the shower hose from the bathtub or who knows the bum gum and spray the mess towards the drain. Everything drains away. Maybe pour some detergent or floor cleaner unto the area to make it extra clean. Everything drains away and water evaporates mins later or you can use a cloth to just dry it.

I suppose you must be like some super expert specialist that never had water spill out from the sink unto the floor? How does your carpet look like when water accidentally comes out from the shower or bath tub? Never accidentally missed the bowl when pissing?

Well, that's about 8 years old. How does it look? If it got bad I'd have it shampooed, but it's never needed it. It's also small and would be cheap to replace if needed.

What do you do - just piss in the middle of your floor and then hose it down?

Did you even read my last post? I was asking you have you ever accidentally puked on the floor? Pissed on the floor? Sometimes it happens. With your carpet floor that's going to be a bitch to clean.

You're trying to be funny about pissing on the middle of the floor and hosing it down but hey i could do that if i wanted to. The fact of the matter is it's easy to clean bathroom floors with a drain. It's easy to clean up accidents and water drains away if it came out from the bathtub or shower. You cannot deny that fact and it's just silly to have a carpetted floor. I have never even seen that in 5 star hotels. how are they going to clean the floor?

5 star hotels can't count on their guests to be careful. No, I've never pissed or puked on my floor, but if I did I'd get the carpet shampooer out. It sprays carpet shampoo, power brushes it, and then vacuums it into a tank. Two or three passes with that would clean it.

Do you know how nice it is to walk bare footed on carpet?

Sounds like real hard work there. How long is 2 or 3 passes?

No thanks i wouldn't want to walk on carpet. You see it attracts well dust cos it's carpet and there is just that sort of icky feeling about it. You probably need to clean it daily or something to get it clean.

Then again i am sure you wear your shoes in your home so how does it feel like having all the dirt from outside in your home?

This kind of sink is not convenient to clean your willy after use without having water everywhere, I guess it cannot be very clean :-)

Take off socks and shoes when you enter the house and walk around the house barefoot. Wash your feet at every opportunity.

Put it down below pointing up and back, no spray escapes.

It's traditional for YOU to pay for a western-style sit-down unit to be installed as a present (to yourself) before you arrive.

I love wet floor bathrooms, and think that it's just logic !

People who want to keep a bathroom dry sound plain stupid to me <3

Growing up with a western-style bathroom means you're trained from childhood to not do these things. Children get spanked if they splash a lot of water out of the tub onto the floor, because for many places it would cause damage, cause linoleum to lift.

Men are very careful not to splash urine around. People who drink so much they have to puke do it into the toilet.

Sure there may be accidents but rarely, and they get cleaned up.

And I've never heard of anyone cleaning their "willy" in the sink.

All that said, I definitely prefer a full-tiled bathroom, would never use wallpaper anywhere and especially not in a bathroom.

But I'm strange for a farang, don't go by me.

And totally inappropriate to imply that people with different cultural preferences are primitive.

In western bathrooms, water is only supposed to run within the porcelain fixtures.

A vacuum cleaner and/or a damp mop (used in conjunction with a proper squeeze bucket) are used to clean the floor.

A sponge is used to clean other surfaces.

In the UK, I found the best floor covering was tiles with underfloor heating. Warm feet and a very practical and easy-clean surface, especially if one is prone to making a mess on the floor or regular vomiting.

Neversure, as for your lovely bathroom picture, judging by the walls it seems you suffer from projectile vomiting..... smile.png

Oh Yea , I forgot

Homes in the US are stick build and have plywood sub-floors, Not a good idea pouring buckets of water on the floor ,

Homes in Thailand are concrete, with cement sub-floors...........

I know, I know, I am <deleted>*#n genius.

May I suggest not reading this forum in the bathroom? Should cut down on the vomiting significantly.wink.png
