Thai philosophers

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a Thai philosopher to check ? It would be interesting to read something from someone that isn't necessarily a Buddhist though ...,

i googled the subject but only found a few westerners who have become Buddhist monks. There have been quite a few Thai poets and writers but philosphers, it seems next to nil.

Yeh I did the same

Seems funny that there not listed, could be a conspiracy in there somewhere.

How about Burmese or Cambodian, Laotian?

Just though perhaps it might be better to look for Siam or even Khmer philosophers..?

No such things.

I know you said 'not Buddhist', but I would still recommend you to check out the writings of Ajahn Chah. :)

Thanks

Can you recommend something either have written that really reflects their individuality? Something that is a good insight into their perceptions rather than something which describes what Buddhism is etc

Please don't take this in a negative vein as it's just my natural curiosity.

I would suggest that a good philosopher transcends all barriers ( religion, gender, political, etc) so nationality should be of little consequence.

Your motivation to find a Thai philosopher specifically, piques my curiosity.

Would be grateful if you could elaborate a little as to your motivation for this enquiry.

?

It is just an interest. In fact I have just finished reading Lao tzu which is a fantastic work

Considering I used to live in Thailand, I obviously still hv an interest in the country and 'reading' something from a philosophical Thai point of view is something I never did whilst there but now feel I want to

Simple as that :-)

Thai philosophers are kind of like Jewish carpenters.

They happen only in myths and legends.

Tibetan Buddhist scriptures mention the Jewish carpenter at least twice

Just watched his hard talk Bbc interview, quite liked him. Nice to hear him not being biased to any sides.

Any reads worth checking out..?, thinking about "loyalty comes from dissent"
