BANGKOK, Feb 25 – Thailand's Civil Court ruling prohibiting the authorities from taking harsh action against anti-government protesters has disrupted the peace-keeping operation of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO), according to a senior security official.

Tarit Pengdith, a CMPO member and director general of the Department of Special Investigation, said CMPO has suspended its move to reclaim public areas occupied by protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) following the court’s verdict last week.

He said the authorities could only take photos of PDRC activities for legal action in the future, adding that protesters yesterday seized five government buildings, including the Customs Department, Foreign Ministry, Energy Ministry, Finance Ministry and Revenue Department.

They also sealed off Voice TV station and M-Link Asia Corporation Plc, he said.

He said the CMPO would submit photos of the PDRC activities to the Appeals Court to ask for more power in dealing with protesters following restrictions by the Civil Court.

CMPO yesterday adjusted its assignment of police personnel keeping public order in the capital and assigned 2,000 more police officers to provide safety for the public, said Mr Tarit.

He said the document to extradite Indian businessman Satish Sehgal from Thailand is awaiting approval from the CMPO after which it would be delivered to the Immigration Department for final action.

Mr Satish was charged with co-leading PDRC anti-government activities.

Mr Tarit said arrest warrants were issued for 124 people in connection with disrupting the Feb 2 general election, involving a total of 355 cases. (MCOT online news)

Ha ha ha! Just send out that old drunkard Chalerm with and camera than, need to have a very good anti shake lens.

did head CMPO Pol. Captain Chalerm already formally ask the Civil Court to explain their ruling in more detail?

BTW as for some posters here mentioned Satish Sehgal to be one of the five foreign PDRC leaders CMPO/DSI told us about. Well, it would seem mr. Sehgal is not a leader. So when will we get that list of five names promised a few weeks ago?

Also still waiting for Pheu Thai spokesperson Promphong's further proof on Suthep allegedly misusing money donated for protests. Promised 1-1/2 week or so ago.

Why do caretaking government, Pheu Thai MPs and members, police, CMPo and DSI all come with such interesting statements as "we know" and the public still waiting to be told?

This forum really needs to begin maintaining a list of who promised what and when. And if it ever happens, when and who did it.

Cause the never ending "I knows" and "next week" statements are more or less just lies upon lies. Fruition of anything resembling progress or informing the people appears to always be just around the corner.

CMPO is a massive part of the problem - and nothing to do with the solution

It's the disease - not the cure.

I would venture to say that the CMPO part in the problem comes from the people put in charge of said organization. We have seen incompentent and corrupt people leading and placed throughout a system that that was set up to prevent the very actions that are/have occured.

The leaders of this caretaker government are soley responsible for the situation that has resulted from their success at purchaseing a ballot box win and subsquent coalition government. They and their cronies have broken so many laws/rules of responsible government that the checks and balance system that is still working is completly overloaded. Then it is having to deal with circumstances that are a result of the degrading of the entire political system by this lot on what many see as a emergency basis.

The Thai system may need some tweeking but its not broken, yet. We have seen the PTP imperessination of a 'bull in a china shop' and it has become apparent thatTheir potential voting support is waining. Now we just have to hope that they are up to righting the wrongs and enforceing proper punishment on those who have committed those wrongs.

Amazing! COURTS SAY " Take photos and come back to courts to discuss! Now if this is not a sure sign that the NACC and constitutional courts are not CORRUPT, what is?? Who created these groups? Military & Dems during the last coup all in the name of "Reform". So now Dems want another try at reform?? Corruption starts at Nacc and constitutional court.

'... He [Tarit] said the document to extradite Indian businessman Satish Sehgal from Thailand ... would be delivered to the Immigration Department for final action.' I thought Immigration had already given the application the elbow. Or was that their pre-emptive strike?

No wonder CMPO is as much use as a chocolate teapot, with a drunk plonker like Chalerm fronting it, and supported by Thaksin lapdog Tarit.

Do they only work 9 to 5?

Almost 20 explosions were counted by guards from midnight to 4.00 a.m. today coupled with gunshots.

Or Chalerm provided the with ear plugs so they could get a good nights sleep.

An extra 117 military checkpoints will be set up to cover risk spots around protest sites and other key areas in Bangkok in the wake of escalating violence. /Bangkok Post

Do you think the CMPO should have done the same thing to protect the protest areas? After all, setting up checkpoints and doing searches was specifically authorized by the SOE. Maybe if they stuck to these violence prevention tasks, instead of trying to seize assets and remove protesters and their blockades, the SOE would not have been gutted by the court?

I am no fan of how the police operate here but don't tar them all with the same brush. There has to be some decent ones amongst them & don't forget the heroic act by the officer who tried to kick away the grenade.

You want to keep 'peace and order'? I would suggest you find the people responsible for the daily bombings. Right now, the protestors aren't really hurting anybody but the bombers are. Do your blood jobs and keep 'peace and order!' bah.gif

The people who got taken by the protesters were policemen without uniform....that pretty much explains why the police can't catch the bombers and why the navy helps protecting them.

I think that maybe, just maybe you have misjudged them...... I am told that they are working very hard at grabbing all anti govt protesters who arrive on motorcycles and are not wearing a helmet.
