Surapong challenges Suthep to debate with Chalerm or Jatuporn

2-27-2014-9-13-28-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul has accused protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban of not being sincere in challenging caretaker prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to appear before the nation-wide TV for a one-to-one talk in order to find a solution to the ongoing political conflict.

He said that the TV appearance would look like a debate rather than a negotiation to resolve a conflict. If Mr Suthep is sincere about talks to settle the conflict, he suggested that the two sides should hold talks in closed doors, he added.

Mr Surapong further said that if Mr Suthep really wanted a public debate then the latter should better challenge Chalerm Yubamrung, director of Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, or red-shirt core leader Jatuporn Promphan which would be a better match instead of Ms Yingluck who could not match Mr Suthep anyway.

Mr Surapong who is also caretaker foreign minister said he had invited UN secretary-general Ban Kee-mun to help mediate the political conflict in Thailand.

Amazing. Yingluck no confidence to match Suthep. Wonder why that is yet she is running the country. She is a music hall joke. Ha Ha.

Over to you bully boy suthep !

Surapong's main message is correct: a public debate will do nothing to solve the conflict. Discussions mediated by the UN is the only way forward at this point.

this guy needs a kick in the <deleted> blink.png ...there is ONLY 1 person accountable and that’s YL .............THE LEADER OF PTP & CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER

What an ridiculous idea. Surely any such debate would only turn into a physical stick up. Or is that the idea? Is this what it has come to ?

Two things about this:

1 why should Suthep have a debate with Chalerm of Jatuporn? Are they the leaders of this govt?

2 Even Surapong admits that Yingluck is no match for Suthep...

It shows the trust the PT has in their dear leader.smile.png

It's not that I have such great faith in the UN. At this point, however, it seems to me the best chance at derailing further escalation. Neither side is willing to bridge the divide on their own, and the looming threat of the red shirts hangs over any type of coup.

".......instead of Ms Yingluck who could not match Mr Suthep anyway."

That got me thinking Surapong is probably off YS's Christmas card list. He should learn that one should recognise ones leaders shortcomings and keep quiet not hang them out for the world to see.

Yes don't challenge our fluffy team mascot, it is only there to keep our spirits up. Why would you expect a mascot to have the backbone or linguistic aptitude to field challenging and abrasive questions. Can't you just admire the beautiful fluffy plumage instead? Do you have arguments with the stuffed bears in Toys'R'Us? No you don't do you.

" ... instead of Ms Yingluck who could not match Mr Suthep anyway. "

A startling ( though unsurprising ) admission. If this is the best Surapong and Thaksin can come up with to save face, it's pretty sad. Yingluck backed away from her own invitation. A one on one with Yingluck in front of live TV for every citizen in the country to view would be appropriate. And it is particularly appropriate to have that conversation with the prime minister of the country. Somehow suggesting a star of red shirt TV or a man more devoted to night-caps doesn't quite do it. It will be fascinating when Ki-moon asks if talks had been initiated, only to find Surpapong saying " Well, yes, but it was wholly inappropriate to have the prime minister herself debate Suthep, you understand. Much better to have someone more representative who is calling for the eradication of the independent agencies of checks and balances. "

Suthep running from his arrest warrant, and now running from Chalerm

One side wants open debate

One side wants SECRET talks

hahahahahahahahahahah

I see it as Chalerm accepting Suthep challenge to a "fist Fight" but to a more appropriate debate on live TV, Where size does not matter, but I do not believe Suthep is up to facing an likewise longtime professional politician that can look you in the eyes and lie to you.

Cheers

She has offered talks to resolve the political divide since the beginning of his insurrection.. He has flatly refused... repeatedly... it''s never gonna happen and is ridiculous to even banter about really...imagine the dynamics of getting Suthep in a chair or at a podium with his 500 nannies all around him...? not gonna happen..no matter how you filter it..or try to spin it.. I'd be for it though so they could get this guy in a room and get the cuffs on him..

So have a debate/talks with Yingluck (alleged "Prime Minister "of Thailand) or Chalerm (has been political heavy weight who currently isn't even DPM) or Jatuporn (not even in the government bigmouth) welllllllll. At least come up with someone relevant to propose rather than to has beens!!?!

I knew it wouldn't take long for comments to seize on that quote from this article.

Trying to denigrate Ms. Y. is mostly agenda...Her reply to this new Suthep offer for 'negotiation' stemming from his weakening position, is entirely understandable and admirable.

As I was reading the article last night about this rebirth by Suthep for negotiation, I saw a photo on Social media, showing a major blocked street, but sparseley populated. Just a smattering of protesters spread out over a large area.....That clarified exactly why this sudden conversion by Suthep for 'negotiation', in whatever form he is trying to accomplish.

Same as in warfare, when one loses the "power to force the issue', one quickly transitions to negotiation, before there is full realization by one's adversary that this loss has occurred.

But one undertakes this so-called negotiation stance with bluster. Trying to create the impression that one is dealing from a position of strength, when in fact ones' 'power to force the issue" has dissipated.

That said about coup-monger leadership motives, it is admirable for Ms. Y. not to be sucked into this thing. Can you imagine the status of the PM office being dragged into the mud via Suthep's swaggering bombast.

Chalerm and Jatuporn could match him in that department, as Ms. Y. is not built that way. Not only could they match him, their task would be easy...It is virtual child's play supporting the Political philosophy underpinning Electoral Democracy, in the face of bravado and bluff to the contrary.

I am very pleased to see Ms. Y. take that pro-electoral democracy stance, and informing Mr. Suthep that any discussion needs to understand a basic commitment to that position. When there is acceptance of the inviolability of Democracy via the ballot box, the peripherals can be discussed.

My biggest fear is that she implodes like Samak and Somchai did. I am sure she is experiencing the same behind-the-scenes pressures they did.

Her soft and gentle way of asserting this pro-electoral democracy position continues to endear her to political majority who are her continuing and growing source of electoral power.

Taking the 'high road' in this instance is admirable, letting others get down in the mud with a weakening opponent.

I'd like to see Suthep debate Chuwit. I'd pay to see that one!

Chalerm didn't accept anything, Surapong suggested.

What amazes me is that you actually think that Chalerm is a professional politician?! Ask your Redshirt buddies about Chalerm. The far majority of them (excluding the UDD gestapo of course) are ashamed this govt has obligations to include this lunatic in the govt.

I imagine most of the PTP ministers understand the ineptness of YL.....but have to continue to protect her from any further bad publicity.

Thaksin doesn't seem to care overly much for her either with all the bad issues he's creating for her to carry.....but...whatever big bro says...!

Good to see the PTP have so much faith in their dear leader.

Still, I would like to see Chalerm, renowned for his gift of the gab, in a debate with Suthep. Pure comedy.

Too bad she's incompetent.

I thought Pheu Thai was the party for democracy. What are they afraid the public will know about. whistling.gif.pagespeed.ce.FVjgnKnWS1.pn

Who is running from who?

You might be seriously confused (or biassed) to write such a nonsense

I'm afraid you are a lost hopeless cause.

Enjoy the elysian paradise that will be Thailand should the Shins get their leader whitewashed and establish their idea of democracy, law and order and free speech.

Or wake up and see them for what they really are.

Don't think it was at all necessary to hang any shortcomings "out for the world to see" as it should be pretty clear by now to most observers, all red supporters are excluded for obvious reasons.
