BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a former Border Patrol Police officer to seven years in jail and each of his four police subordinates to five years for abuse of authority and assault.

Pol Captain Nat Chonnitiwanich was found guilty of abuse of authority and assault, while the four former police sergeants-major - Niran Taemchuay, Rangsiman Sukkaew, Panang or Jakrin Duangkamol and Apisak Polsawat - were found guilty of abuse of authority.

The complaint said that on January 6 and 7, 2007, Nat and his team detained a couple for alleged possession of 20 yaba pills in Nakhon Si Thammarat, tortured them to obtain confessions and demanded Bt200,000 for their release.

The couple, who were turned over to police to face legal action, were later acquitted. A source said Nat and seven Border Patrol officers were sentenced last December to 12 years for kidnapping a woman, planting drugs on her and blackmailing her. Nat was given an additional 10 years for raping her while she was being held.

How can anybody expect the police, here, to solve crimes, when they're too busy committing them?

How much to cheat on the police exam now? hundreds were caught paying 300k 2 years ago.

Google " strange fruit in kalasin" for a rather depressing read

Yes and all convicted, including those receiving the death sentence, were released on bail paid for by RTP. Never resurfaced again in the media.

It is a criminal franchise.

So for the rapist its 12 + 10 + 7 years? Is that with no chance of parole or amnesty?

Nice to see some justice laid out but the Thai correctional system is overcrowded with petty criminals who should have been fined heavily instead of being jailed while many rapists are let out for good behavior or because of connections.

I doubt a policeman of this ranking will remain behind bars the entire length of his sentence.

There's something about that smirk and unrepentant look that says he has other plans.

How about hormonal treatment or castration to control his behavior to ensure no repeat?

I'm sure that baby face could benefit from some increased smoothness via less testosterone.

The dereliction of duty still continues with the in-action of the police in the protest ridden BKK, daily there are incidences that are occurring and the police seem to be on another planet as to why rocket propelled grenades, M16 fire power, being used are coming from, there seems a complete lack of moral leadership at the top, they know but wont act , that sends a bad image to the public because they know also , Thai police have never been a strong leadership example to show your children, unless you want them working in corruption, then again , you can join the PTP.coffee1.gif

Does anybody really believe he will spend any time in jail?

What does an incident that happened 2 years ago have to do with this report? Where the same people involved?

Am I reading this right? The original offence against the couple was in 2007, and while this offence is ostensibly still being investigated 5 years later, the same guy is still working in uniform and kidnaps and rapes another woman? Can this really be true?

rather fitting that the prisoners jail outfit is also colored brown

I have to say that in the picture he looks pretty composed and unconcerned about whole thing. This is probably just more of an inconvenience for him. He could walk in the front door and out the back the same day but will have to lay low and be discrete for a while in another province.

His buddies should have put him on a plane to Singapore, where he could get a touch of the sniffles and stay there indefinitely. Or maybe it takes some big Red Bull money to pull that one off.

HA his term of 7 years is completed and he will be walking free in some days if i guess Right b coz it took place in 2007

day and night counts in prison if i am wrong plz correct me
