Riding Around CR

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'll be in Chiang Rai soon for 3 days. I want to rent a motorbike to ride around and explore the beauty of this region.

I'm considering this itinerary: CR => Fang (via road 109) => Mae Salong => Doi Tung => CR

First, is this loop doable in one day? Is Fang really worth it?

Also or alternatively, I'd like to visit Mae Sai and Chiang Khong area.

I know 3 days is a bit short to see everything... what would you do? keep/skip?

Recommendations/suggestions are more than welcome wai2.gif

I would definitely skip Fang (initially, see below) since it offers little to see (in my opinion). Doing Doi Mae Salong and then Doi Tung (Mae Fa Luang Garden) would be a nice full day. The road to Chiang Khong is REALLY bad right now. If you took a motorbike you would probably eat a kilo to two of dirt from the construction on the road. I would recommend a day trip to Mae Sai followed by the Golden Triangle then to Chiang Saen and back to CR. For a third day you could possible do a drive through Fang and onto Doi Angkhang and back to CR.
