Hi, all. I'm planning to be in Chiang Rai this summer, and I've been considering getting a tattoo while I'm there. I've never had ink done before, but this has special significance to me, such that I'd prefer to get the tattoo done in Thailand rather than in the U.S. before or after I go (it has Thai lettering, which I'd prefer to leave to someone in Thailand).

But me being utterly unfamiliar with the area, does anyone have recommendations or examples of the work from a decent/clean/talented parlor in the area? I didn't see any recent corresponding topics, so pardon me if I'm posting something that's been asked before. Just not knowing the area, I don't know what to expect, who will do good work and give good directions for care, etc.

Any help anybody could give would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think I've seen any tattoo shops/parlours around Chiang Rai but as many Thai men have them there must be; although many have a "home made" look about them.

I'd probably start my inquiries at the night bazaar.

Not into tattos but I think there are several in the night bazzar, center point and Jet Yod.

There are quite a few but I recommend a guy I've used a couple of times, excellent. From the Golden Clock head West towards Sammakhi school. At the traffic lights on the left, before the big hotel where Face Bar is, there is an outdoor noodle restaurant and just next to that is the tattoo guy's shop.

I know nothing about tattoos, but have heard that a guy called Ugli who operates a shop opposite Chiang Mai Saloon on Loi Kroh, is second to none. I'm sure tattoo aficionados with confirm either way.

Thanks for the input, everybody. I tend to like to do research before making a massive decision like a tattoo would be. Just wanted to know if anyone had info about quality/care/sanitation. I may go to Chiang Mai too, and I tend to see more online about decent shops there, so I might have it done there.

Thanks again!
