What is the Thai name for plywood? Do they use the standards of A, B, C faces? What is the last price you paid and where (outdoor AC). Is MDO available? I noticed the marine ply is actually really inferior with huge gaps in the middle when cut!

Most Plywoods here do not use Marine Glue (epoxy glue) between the layers, and therefore cannot be regarded as Marine Ply as we know it...

Theres a plywood brought in from Malaysia, that has a smooth Dark surface on one side, painted yellow edges..This they say is Waterproof, but to me it's the same as Construction Plywood used for pouring concrete on building sites. Thats the closest you may find here to Marine Ply.....

Costs roughly 1600baht per sheet...and yes there are gaps throughout the laminates. CharlieH is correct, you can buy there as well

Hope this helps

So... what do people use? Let me guess? Cement!

Are the various hardwoods that I see cut dimensionally any good? I assume it is not teak, but looks similar.

I don't know for which purpose you need the plywood, but if it's to be used outdoor, take a look at viva board

http://www.viva.co.th/th/index.php

That looks promising for many uses, but not for a quick-build boat. Usually AC without epoxy will last 10+ years - longer than I care to use it. MDO lasts forever as it is basically encased in epoxy when the edges are sealed too.

many many shops have plywood with a red colored government stamp on the sheets,

this is reasonably close to marine plywood

7 mm sheets are easily available,

10 mm with the red government stamp is NOT easy to find

now, this red government stamp doesn't mean the plywood is really good for boat building,

but its way better than plywood without the stamp

you should talk to a boat builder and ask where he buys his wood

there are several builders using plywood next to Bangkok ( Nonthaburi )

any luck with finding marine plywood?

some weeks ago i found a company in BKK, Sukhumvit soi 71, with proper plywood, also marine plywood on their www page

plywood made to different British Standards

went to see them, sure could by marine plywood 9 mm sheets, about 31 US dollars/sheet

they import the plywood from Indonesia, minimum order; one 20 foot container

(I need 5 sheets for my own boat)

Anyway, the guy was somewhat helpfull, explained this and that and said that the Thai market is swamped by cheap "fake" plywood from China

He was fairly certain that no "shops", big or small, stocks marine plywood

I'm a bit mystified by the OP's question. In the small town near us the local Tao store had about six different thicknesses of plywood, in varying qualities.

If the stuff he has been buying is partially hollow, then it is intended for use in formwork for concreting, once only use.

I used 12 mm plywood for a work top and have been hammering hell out of it for three years now. Around ฿600 for a sheet I think.

re Marine Plywood

some 3 weeks or so ago I was in contact with a Thai company in soi 71 Sukhumvit (in Bangkok),

they purchase a lot of plywood from Indonesia, most of it is sold to brokers in SIngapore that export worldwide

thay had in their brochure lots of plywood made to British Standards, also proper marine plywood.

I wanted 5 sheets for my own boat, but no, minimum order 1 container

But the guy was quite OK, spent quite some time with me explaining about the plywood business.

He was quite convinced that no company in Thailand stocks marine plywood.

However, cheap import crap from China is plentifull.

Couple of days ago I got some news from a friend of mine. An Australian boatfreak neighbour of my friend claimed that in Klong Dan

(that is in the part of Samuth Prakan which is SE of Bangkok and the river)

there are shops that would have real marine plywood.

Maybe, its a lot of boat activity (also newbuilds and repairs) going on in Klong Dan.

Haven't checked it out yet though.
