What is the best option for a family with a small kid and 2 suitcases to travel from Penang to Ipoh? Want to leave Penang at around 14:00. Are there VIP busses on this route? How long and how much $$$ ?

Plenty of buses, and its not a long trip as Richard points out. I booked through a travel agent to avoid having to wander around the bus station trying to find the relevant people - for two people, I recall the cost as being quite low (no surprise as its the main form of public transport for many Malaysians).

I would charter a driver and go by car, much more convenient with a kid and suitcases.

Can't be more the 200RM.

Ipoh is not the most attractive area... in Malaysia, one wonders why you would pick that ?.... (the Malays pronounce it "Epoh" in case you get strange looks....when asking!

What about Langawi.... ? any one I know who has been there has liked it...

we stopped in ipoh last feb on the way to Cameroon highlands,

one night was plenty and if we had arrived earlier wouldn't have stopped at all.

Agree, I think Taiping, about an hour drive from Penang has more to offer.

However drive from Penang to Ipoh is very nice.
