Hey there

I'm looking for a public notary to verify some documents in English that I have. Do you know a cheap one in Bangkok? Or should I just go to any consulate and do it there?

Thanx

Generally speaking, documents originating outside the country need to be notarized by a vice-consul at one of the consulates, either your own consulate or the consulate of the country in which the documents originated or perhaps the one in which you wish to use them. A verification of foreign documents by a Thai lawyer would be useless for most purposes outside the country (and for many purposes inside the country), although you didn't say exactly what your purpose is here so I suppose I can't say for sure.

Yes, as OAH says, depends what you want it for as there is no Notary Public under Thai Law.

All documents originating outside Thailand must be notarized as per the Laws of that Country for Courts etc. Most less high powerered organizations just accept certified translations with signature.

btw, it's around 2,000 baht per page. However, there's no alternative.

(Also note there are some kinds of documents they will not stamp. It's not a notary per se, but the effect is the same)

US$30 for the first notarial seal, and $20 for each additional seal. Cash (either Baht or dollars); personal checks cannot be accepted.

Where the notarized signature is required, but will not affect my legal rights, I have often been successful going into my bank in Thailand and having the bank manager certify my signature with a stamp they all seem to have for that purpose. They also generally can stamp some Thai looking stuff next to the signature. It's almost alway accepted in the USA (depending on the document of course.)
