There are people who have to speak bad about other people so they get the (misplaced) feeling they are superior.

Go put your yellow shirt on, sit in the corner and wait to be told what to do....

Because it makes the people that do it feel better about themselves because they are so insecure, reading some of the posts on TV one could well picture the same people making the same comments about "their" natives in Africa or India in days gone by

One suspects a lot of the people making these comments would be "lower" classes in their own countries and now they have moved to Thailand, they can look down on people "lower" than themselves

Because a lot of people are a little limited in intelligence

People have been burned by the wrong people and have grouped all in the same bracket

Poor purchasing habits

Want to make their little bit of ( choose) in SE Asia and are upset when they find it is a different culture

It undoubted takes a coward to sit behind an anonymous keyboard vomiting venom all day. Regrettably, I must distill the many solid, intelligent, and useful posts from the frequently abusive, cantankerous people who spew drivel. Often, it is the same people who do so; some to be provocative, but you can clearly see others are actually rude and obnoxious.

Perhaps they would fight for their country, their honor, their wives, a person in need, etc., but they are cowards nevertheless. It takes a man/woman of bearing to realize peoples everywhere are more or less the same; however, their wants, needs, and difficulties are expressed through differing cultural lens. I am often aghast at some of the negative things men say here regarding Thai women. Suck it up. We have all been hurt. It is the mechanics of life. One could never know great love until one has suffered in love.

Which brings me to the underlying negativity so often surmised on TV: there are a lot of disappointed men out there. So, Thai woman are often poor. Perhaps they are manipulative. Maybe there are scams around many corners. Perhaps Thailand looks like any other place in the world, albeit with its own flavor. I would never want to become the man who takes comfort impugning others- entire people- as I see daily on TV. I am only referencing the mean SOBs that often post here, not those who just raise irritating observations or questions. Grow up and spew vile elsewhere!

The reprehensible and ridiculous disparaging of an entire nation, its culture and its people - as is often seen on here - has a multitude of causes. Fear of the new, different or unknown. Lack of self-esteem, adventurousness or curiosity. The inability to adapt, assimilate or empathise. Stupidity, ignorance or just mindless trolling.

There are many things wrong with this country but it's nowhere near as bad as some on here would make it out to be.

Hmmm this is a tricky question. OK I will try and give it a shot. Let's say hypothetically that you went

to visit a perfect country. Say it was full of smiling friendly people, nobody ever cheated you, and every
time you visited the country you had the time of your life . Nobody would speak badly about such a

country. Now let's say hypothetically you went to visit another country, and people kept trying scams on you,

lady-boys kept trying to pickpocket you, the police keep trying ways to get money from you for imagined

offenses, the friends you know there got cleaned out by evil bar girls, or were drugged and robbed, and the

newspapers are full of stories of the local men going berserk over trivial matters and killing tourists .....

What do you think people would speak about when referring to this place ?? Good or bad ??

So in my opinion that fact that so many people refer to Thailand poorly means something is wrong.

I personally am here for the mangoes, and have little interest in Thai society at large. I do like to keep

up on the news and crime so I know what to avoid..... :-)

Now lets see

and people kept trying scams on you,

The scams that have been tried on me were non-Thai and although chatted up by ladyboys, my pockets are intact, am yet to be scammed by the Police, being cleaned out by the evil beauties, well hence my post in regard (partly) to poor purchasing habits, drugged and robbed, survived so far and nowhere else in the world do people go berserk.

However your quote, knowing what to avoid is purely a risk assessment, your safe operating procedures and hazard analysis is commendable, I do the same and apart from food poisoning, my hazard radar was on the blink, and having low immunity, was very unwell (several occasions), but on the whole as the man said who fell from a seven story building, so far so good.

The experience of the average tourist, is in fact , amazingly enough, in the tourist areas. Can't imagine more than 1 % of tourists booking tours in Isan ?? So the response of most farangs

will be in fact about the tourist areas. And I agree, that is where a lot of the problems take place that give people such a poor view of Thailand. I have traveled extensively in Isan by motorcycle, never had a problem, and found the people I met to be extremely friendly and helpful. So yes, that is a part of Thailand that the average tourist will never see...

everywhere else in the world, it is called truth,

only in Thailand is it thai bashing

ex.

I told the girl I was with that the thai economy is heading for a severe contraction,

she said I was insulting her country

Thai bashing is not a good heading as it implies that you want feedback on why people are behaving unreasonably towards Thai people, even behaving in a racist fashion and generalizing about the populous based upon a few individuals actions.

However for feedback on why people criticize Thailand I think it is simply cultural shock. A lot of people have come from Western countries with Western cultures, a lot of these Western cultures are becoming a bit too "nanny state" so when you come to Thailand and see what people do it's a bit of a shock.

But there are genuine reasons for some criticism as well. Thailand is a developing country and although it is much wealthier then 10 or 20 years ago it is still far behind the living standards of western countries. So, when you experience behavior such as crazy driving, no health and safety considerations or police wanting tea money it is understandable that you have a moan about it.

As long as people don't lose sight that they are guests in a foreign country and as long as they treat people with respect i see no harm in having a moan about it on a forum such as this, it makes reading interesting.

I like observing their management skills.

Their calm, efficient multi-tasking qualities also stand out, especially when constructive advice from others is added.

No problem getting PR or citizenship if you qualify. :)

OP has got 3-4 threads going about the very sane subject .

All his responses are no short of being a <deleted>.

So to answer OP, Thai bashing happens because of <deleted> like OP who give good people bad names

I don't know that it is. While one may equate taking the mick as taking the mick, others see it as 'bashing'. Typically those who have gone native and attack any perceived slight on their new home. All very strange. Anyway op, that's the second thread of yours I've come across ultimately knocking others. What's up, is the heat getting to you? I do hope you feel better soon, all this whining must be getting you down. Perhaps get out more ;)

Off topic posts & replies removed.

Because people don't find enough of the truth of the matter to make a reasoned judgement.

Predicting the downfall of somewhere is notoriously difficult for experts let alone us lot. Empires fall over decades not weeks. The 97 crisis took years and years to reach the end.

It all comes down to.surmising that eventually the piper will be paid. The faults in Thailand are there for all to see just as they are in the EU, USA or elsewhere. Seeing them and pointing them out isn't bashing, its just obvious to see.

In another thread the OP wrote, "I think it's wonderful for people who have the choice to choose, 99% of Thai people have no choice."

That's Thai bashing because it's not true. People with degrees have many opportunities in Thailand and there are 1/2 a million new uni grads in Thailand every year.

So to the OP why do you bash Thais? Or was that the only post where you did?

All the apologists in one barrel.....how sweet.

It depends on what you compare them to. Apples to apples. Can you compare the USA to Thailand? Of course not.

Can you compare Thailand to Burma, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia? Sure. Size, location, people...........
