BANGKOK: -- The National Anti Corruption Commission (NACC) has indicted former Pheu Thai party-list MP Yuranunt Pamornmontri, also a former Thai actor and singer, for deliberately concealing his assets worth 17 million baht while assuming the MP status in August 2011.

The assets discovered by the NACC during the investigation are shareholding in a health care firm, Villa Medica, worth 14 million baht, and holding of shares in Thai Airways International Cooperative worth three million baht.

The full member of the NACC agreed to bring his case to the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for trial.

If found guilty, he will be banned from holding political positions and banned from running in election for five years.

Earlier Yuranunt or Sam told Isra news organization that he had no intention to conceal his assets, citing reasons of busying himself in helping people during the great floods and his house was also flooded, thus causing some documents to be missed out in submission of evidence to the NACC.

He said he had no intention to conceal his assets and understood the performing of duties of the NACC officials.

yes the ptp are all getting caught out with their fingers in the cookie jar and crying foul. Isnt strange that they dont say anything till after they are caught out, like yl and all the others, they claim its an ioversight/honest mistake, just forgot about it for a few years. Would be great if the NACCcould catch all the corrupt politicians, doesnt matter which side as long as thery are cornered and kicked out but it should be for life not a p*ssy 5 years, thats bullsh*t.

To do the things you say, NACC would need Senate approval and given the make up of the Senate, approval would be unlikely.

Oh, no red shirts rally in front of NACC office to denounce a"unfair" investigation against Pheu Thai MP ?

He will likely have a year in appeals before him, and enjoy his bail, and pay the right people off during that time.... This is Thailand, he won't go to jail.

Reforms please.....

Why conceal shares like this. What benefit is there to concealing this type of thing?

Idiot.

Well that's the curious thing isn't it. If he declared the shares when becoming an MP and the shares rise and fall in line with the normal course of events, what is the point of hiding it, nothing to worry about. The only thing I can think of is withholding tax, perhaps, I don't know.

Still it'll keep the usual suspects busy for a day or two seeing who can be the most outraged and clapping each other on the backs for their posts..............

Would you want to admit you'd bought shares in anything to do with Thai Airways?

He's probably had it back several times over in free first class flights.

The excuse that he was busy helping flood victims and so the documents were lost is fairly poor...does that mean that he "forgot" that he had 17 million baht worth of assets undeclared?

And if he forgot about this 17 million, how much must he really be worth...and where is it?

He is just small fry.

Since I've been here ( 1988) the same people have basically been the core of all governments. the answer may lie in term limits such as they have in the USA, coupled with strict neopatsm laws would help.

Par for the course in every country. It's all to do with avoiding possible conflicts of interest. Public servants are supposed to act in the benefit of the citizens not their own family and wallet. For this reason there is an annual asset declaration.

Imagine if you will, that there could be a head of state who just happened to own a telecommunications monopoly in his country, and was so corrupt that he forced his government to give a neighboring country billions of baht to buy products and services from the head of states own company. It's not very beneficial to the citizens now is it?

But that would never happen in Thailand would it?

Fab.. not much imagination.

The reason is if your holding shares and stuff in a company and then become a MP and make sure that company gets contracts... ect.

(I see no reason about the Thai air shares as its insignificant) but the other shares might be big enough to benefit from those kind of things.

Also you need to file everything so they can see that you haven't become really rich int he period your an MP. By failing to do so your breaking important anti corruption rules.

Without these kind of rules corruption is even harder to combat, its already hard as you can have money in name of friends ec.

That is why Suthep is right.....banned from politics for 5 years......

How about every money not declared will be seized, and he will be banned from politics, both voting as running elections for lifetime?
