My DIL never stops to borrow my wife's motor bike when she is in trouble with her own, not long ago she kept it one month, in the meanwhile we have only my motorbike for my wife and I.

I did paid for a new carburettor last month, 2 weeks ago I a new battery, this morning my wife told me her husband will come to take the motor bike... no said I! I will give her 2,000 Baht for one month renting Thai people should be able to find a this price, then I will try to find a second hand for her...Of course I will pay for it, I don't like them driving (all the time) my wife motor bike, like I said in OP they almost had an accident last week.

By the way I understand it is not so easy to buy a new one when 2 people with a bay earn 20,000 a month .

All that said (sorry not very interesting) I looked Bhat&sold found an Airblade 25,000 Bahts, 19.000kms year 2008.

First 19,000 kms in six years mean 3,166km a year/263 a month/less than 9km a day thumbsup.gif supposedly sold by the owner/not an agent...

...But under the same name AND same telephone number I found and advert also in Baht&Sold for motorbikes for rent in Samui.

what a coincidence...of course I did not called...

What's your own feeling knowing the motor bike was sold with the green book registered at the owner's name so ?

Am I a little Paranoiac ? Is buying a second hand motor bike in Samui a reel hazard? I really do not fancy to buy my DIL a new oneblink.png

Have a good day every one.

...normally on Samui forum there are no grammar brigade like on the General Topics one, for I am NOT a native English speaker.

Not far than yesterday, I was corrected by a grammar tamruad even thought I did my best smile.png but writing in a foreing language is no easy task sometimes, the funny thing I have a British passport but left the country still a toddler, in my twenties I hardly spoke a word...so thanks for your possible understanding.

You should be able to pick up a 2nd hand motorbike with a green book for 12,000 baht or less.

As for the rest of your post, I am not sure I really understand it.

To make sure the transaction is legitimate, have the seller sign the papers at the government transport office in Lipa Noi.

Your English is more or less understandable - that's not your problem.

It's the way you ramble aimlessly and without any clear direction.

I hope that I'm helping you by saying this (one reply has already said they don't understand).

But you would be able to make your point more clearly if you kept everything as simple as possible without trying to explain everything as you go!

All you are saying is - "I am looking for a second-hand motorbike. Can anyone give me some practical advice about what to buy, please?"

The other 340 words are unnecessary and confusing - much better if you spend that time working out exactly what you need to say before you start to write!

If people need any more information from you, they will ask.

I buy second hand bikes for my staff.

They are usually quite old - but serviceable. (The bikes - not the staff whistling.gif )

I never pay more than 12,000 baht and I always get a green book. (8,000 baht with no book) thumbsup.gif

I buy them from the guy who services my own bike and he gets to service the staff ones as well. I have been using his services for about 12 years and so he tends to do a decent deal for me.smile.png

I did pick up a clunker once, but he changed it when I complained.sad.png

Do you always use the same mechanic/shop? If so, try asking them.wai.gif

Lipa Noi seems a very good advice, the voice of wisdom most thankssmile.png

Yep 12k should get you something reasonable.

I picked up a 2011 'step' with 7.5k on the clock for 20k

I picked up a 2011 'step' with 7.5k on the clock for 20k thumbsup.gif

Should I found in the same range I would buy too for 20,000...

...But I read BahtSold sometimes, I have found many times in the 25,000 or even 35,000 range or worst like in my OP 25.000 Bhat for a six years old one, as for his low Kms as I said I am confident it's more easy to change on the old ones, because six years only 19,000...but OK it is possible.

By the way for you Baht&Sold?

Anyhow thanks for answering...smile.png

Buy her a new Click.

50K - problem solved.

Buy yourself a new bike and leave the old one for her.

Problem solved better. :)

When I lived on Samui the best place to find a used bike was always the notice board outside Tesco's.

YEEES of course, thank you... what an absent minded person I am, in BigC I guess toosmile.png

Thank you Dancealot...but recently I also did bought her a tablet Samsung, and a good watch and a second watch hardly 6 month later, on my own maybe I would have done it, but my wife does not wish they believed (mainly her 21 years old husband) we just have to print the money.

Always good ideas PS but my motorbike a PCX less than a year 5,000kms, my wyfe a Click idling stop last november 3,000 kms.

So I said to my wife if you prefer a PCX we could buy one and give the Click to your daughter, she told me "NO" they must learn it is no so easy you are not an ATM sad.png She is convinced a second hand would be better psychologically.

I was just asking around and a very dear friend of mine was willing to sell me hers for 20k. Never been off the island and just used for light duties as she also has a car. One careful owner and only used to go to the temple on Sundays sort of thing. I was looking for something decent and automatic (I'm disabled) because I was going to attach a saleng to it. Bolt one of those to a an old dog and it would likely have trouble getting up hills!

I'd follow Trop's advice and look for one around the 12k mark and make sure you get a book with it. If it's just a run around then I don't see an issue. For someone like Jimmy who clocks up some serious mileage it is another matter.

Well I am not "a little old lady" who just rides to the temple on Sundays, that's for sure..tongue.png I don't think an average of 10,000 kms a year is that bad... facepalm.gifrolleyes.gif ..... plus I keep oil changes and maintenance regular!

My suggestion would be try some of the bike rental shops.... I know one that has or had a Click for sale... I think he was asking 15,000 baht (?)

I am not sure if it is still there or not, but can find out if Tchooptip PM's me... This shop does do regular maintenance and repair on his bikes...BTW thumbsup.gif unlike some... wink.png

My knowledge of bikes is limited. Ex rentals make me worry because you don't know the kind of life it has led. It could have spent the last couple of years being ridden by someone who has no idea how to ride one so constantly being in the wrong gear leaving the engine knackered or a heavily ridden clutch. Good time of year to buy a bike though as many of the 6 month people have now left Samui and returned to work in Europe for example. In that respect very much like housing because you have more choice.

Yes would generally agree.... thumbsup.gif .... the shop I mentioned and I think most shops on Samui, mostly only rent automatics..... so clutch thing not a problem

Koh Phangan you see more manual bikes....

One less thing to learn is a good thing for tourists hiring a bike having never ridden one. Does an auto have higher fuel consumption?

I bought my used bike from Big-C.

There is a lovely young women who sells used bikes on the first floor, next to KFC. You can't miss it.

Not sure if you can get one under 20,000 baht, but she has good bikes for sell and the paper work to get it legal is about 1500 baht. You'll have to go to immigration in Nathon for that yourself.

Oh, and don't worry about your English. Just ask them if they speak your language just as good as you do theirs.

Better yet, ask them how their Thai is. That will be sure to shut them up.

Yes I guess I remember the place, but I always thought buying from a reseller was never a good idea, but maybe I am wrong smile.png I am not stubborn

Next time I will go to Big C I will have a look, there is no real hurry. I do not look for a free bike so no problem for 20,000

Anyhow most thanks for answering wai.gif
