Buddha was a man he was not born in a lotus flower, he gained enlightenment he was not a deity or Demi God…he was a Human…about time people woke up to all this nonsense

Ahhh Siddharttha Gautama Shakyamuni also known as Buddha. Certainly one of the world's most cosmicly connected illuminated people along with Jesus, Mohammed, and others. It is rare to meet a Thai university student or adult who knows the correct birth name and history of Buddha.

Unlike you Gil , I wasn't moaning ... i was stating a fact ! ...The fact that you cannot go a day without having a drink in a public place ?! without moaning about a rule that has been applied! I respectfully remind you that you are a foreigner here and as such you must play by the rules , unless you are lawless scum that trys to bend the rules ?! Which is it ?

Quoting you:

"Why don't you go home and drink yourself stupid ?"

Is this respectful my dear little angel? I don't think your mum would be proud of such a crude and judgemental language.

Gil ... i am not an angel ... and I think you are clutching at straws now.. you know exactly how it was meant ! ... and if you don't know , then go and figure it out ..unless you're too busy ripping into the country you're living in and the traditions and rules .. reminds me of when I lived in england and certain forreign people try to enforce their way of the law !! Sounds familiar ?

In a country that needs little reason to throw a party all night long, including death and heading off to be a monk, you would think this would be a reason for a really serious party.

I surprised by the lack of respect that I read in some of the posts here. Why did you come to thailand? Just to live cheap ? Eat cheap? And complain like old farang ? Why don't you go home and drink yourself stupid ? You cannot go one day without moaning about a tradition that is important to some people? It makes me sick to read this poor attitude here !

Hey c'mon guys, we have a real gentleman here with respectful behaviors and a moral teacher's attitude. Edifying! We will learn the right reasons why one ought to come in Thailand. We are poor, we make him sick. Let's watch his vomit. bah.gif

I was brought up to respect others there feelings and their beliefs, even if i don't agree with some in part. However we are foreigners and always will be, are you going to go to Israel or dubai and complain you can't eat a bacon sandwich on the beach? but about it or taking away people's believes. Have some respect !

You don't seem so respectful of the other posters here, i.e. Why don't you go home and drink yourself stupid ?

Hypocrisy much?

t makes me sick to read this poor attitude here !

You must be some kind of masochist to keep reading posts that 'make you sick'.

I joined a very special fraternity many years back and found out a lot about various truth that are hidden from the profane,

Is this 'special fraternity' where you get your moral superiority?

i don't go round moaning

You seem to be doing a lot of moaning here on this forum, though.

Have some respect !

Good advice. I think you should take it.

Since you, clearly, don't know yourself, I offer you this from the Christian Bible. 'Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?' - Matthew 7:3

Just so you know, I stopped alcohol 25 years ago (like it too much) but that was a personal decision. I would like you to know that this ban inconveniences folks who enjoy alcohol but who aren't allowed to drink at home and others who don't like to drink alone. There are still other people who enjoy venting on a forum. I don't mind your insulting posts but thought you might benefit from having a mirror put in front of you.

Do they ever go to work, these people?

Illegal selling equals nice on the spot fines.

Because of quality tourist holiday Thailand, not to disappoint arriving unsuspecting ones how about.----

Having 3 months of NO ALCOHOL during the rainy season then 9 months of endless boozing in the high season. Then everyone will be aware.

The only other way is for tourist areas to be exempt.

OR stay the same where no one knows who is open to sell or not. Depends on the police in your area.

Most quality tourists don't have such a high tech vehicle, you're using. Or with other words, abusing an animal as a truck.

What abuse? Donkeys are beasts of burden and wouldn't have a reason to exist if not for the work they do. They are not good for food and don't make good pets but I guess those uses are abuse in your view. Do you work for a living? If you do, is that abuse? The guy who digs ditches, is he being abused? That donkey has its food and water brought to it every day and it gets free medical care. Non-domesticated animals scrounge for food and live n a kill-or-be-killed world. Is your utopia void of all but wildlife with no domesticated animals? Are you one of those 'no-leather-wearing-vegan' nut-jobs?

Judgmental much?

If you are concerned about not being able to drink on the 13th...consume 2 days worth of alcohol on the 12th...sleep thru the hangover on the 13th...wakeup on the 14th...and you are back in business...

"rametindallas"

Interesting that you feel you need to quote certain phrases and words that I used to distort the whole picture !

I enjoy a drink as much as the next person and of course I understand that the Farang bar owners suffer on these non alcoholic days !

Please don't bring the Christian bible into this , a.) It's a man made book and has been rewritten so many times and b.) Christian Religion has nothing to do with this !

I have a right just as the next person to voice my opinion ! This is not about right or wrong, it is about Siam and it's own peculiar ways .

How you look at it depends on yourself !

It seems all certain folk care about here is to rip into each other rather than work on a solution !

Thanks for the mirror , but no need I like to pass it back to you and suggest you have look yourself !

I don't need mirrors , everyday life is a mirror and reality is far more interesting and exciting !

P.s. where does it say folk aren't allowed to drink at home ?

Do they ever go to work, these people?

"These people", as you sneeringly refer to them, put in an average 48-hour six-day week for the kind of pay that many Westerners give their children as pocket money. Furthermore, the majority are in jobs with no paid leave - which means public holidays are their only escape from the drudgery of work.

Their low-cost labour, all too often in sweatshop conditions not seen in the developed world for decades, helps fill the shelves of western supermarkets with cheap goods. It also, of course, enables thousands of foreigners resident in Thailand to enjoy a standard of living unaffordable in their own countries.

For these reasons, your posting is not only needlessly insulting to Thais but also, I suspect, deeply offensive to the many falangs who appreciate the opportunity to share the delights of this truly amazing country with its people.

Some of us have businesses that sell alcohol to make a living in a country that love controlling the people.Nothing to do with people who can not go a day with out a drink. It's hard enough to make a living in this place without all these no drinking days. The temples will be coining it in though with all the sheep paying loads in merit making

Here's a brilliant business idea:

Open your own temple.
