Court dismisses Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra from office

BANGKOK, May 7, 2014 (AFP) - Thailand's Constitutional Court on Wednesday dismissed Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office, ruling that she abused her power, deepening the kingdom's political uncertainty.

"The judges unanimously rule that Yingluck abused her prime minister status and interfered in transferring (Thawil Pliensri) for her own benefit," president of the nine-member court, Charoon Intachan, said in a televised ruling.

"Therefore her prime minister status has ended... Yingluck can no longer stay in her position acting as caretaker prime minister."

Several cabinet ministers who endorsed the decision to transfer the security chief will also be stripped of their status.

It was not immediately clear whether the ruling would create a political vacuum or if one of Yingluck's ministers nominated after Thawil's transfer would be able to step into her shoes, pending a future election.

Bangkok has been rocked by six months of sometimes violent demonstrations to unseat Yingluck, whose family draws widespread support from the northern portion of the country but is reviled by the establishment in the capital and royalist southerners.

All hail Prime Minister Chalerm.

Like I said I doubted both either side will be happy with the ruling. Losing YL is nothing. PTP is still in control. Why because the court knows elections must come first before reforms. Anything else would be unconstitutional in the eye of the court.

I should make it clear that I don't fully understand Thai politics.. However.

It's a real smokescreen to imagine that this makes any real difference.. the people who wield power will continue to do so and those that get stepped on in the process will continue to be stepped on.

If you are looking for democracy, look in the dictionary because it does not truly exist in the real world.

One of the biggest problems Thailand has is its repeated failure to take out the shin clan and this ridiculous scenario where people ask what will Taksin do next, until he is taken out of the storyline by whatever means necessary then the saga will continue and the country will carry on in its self destructive direction.

Breaking: Court removes PM Yingluck from office

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Constitutional Court ruled unanimously Wednesday to remove caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra from office for transferring a security official more than two years ago.

In a move that will be hailed as overdue justice by the opposition and an undemocratic judicial coup by government supporters, the court ruled Yingluck abused her power by transferring Thawil Pliensri from his post as National Security Council chief. The court also ruled that other caretaker cabinet members can remain in their posts until new elections.

The case was brought to the court by a member of the Thai senate who accused Yingluck of transferring Thawil to the benefit of installing police Gen. Priewpan Damapong as National Police Chief. Priewpan was previously a brother-in-law of Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck's older brother and the former prime minister at the center of Thailand's past decade of political conflict.

So private citizen Yingluck can finally get involved in 'civil disobedience' as asked by some red-shirt faction?
