Democrats Urges Entire Cabinet To Resign

BANGKOK — The Democrat Party has demanded that the rest of the caretaker Cabinet resign alongside Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and some of her Ministers following a ruling by the Constitutional Court today.

The judges found Ms. Yingluck and nine of her Cabinet members guilty of unlawfully removing the head of the National Security Council (NSC) in 2011, and ordered them to step down from their caretaker positions.

Ms. Yingluck has been replaced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan, a senior Minister in the remaining Cabinet.

But the opposition Democrat party has urged the Cabinet to go further and resign en masse to show "responsibility" for the unlawful transfer of NSC director Thawil Pliensri.

"According to social courtesy, now that the court has removed the Prime Minister, the rest of the Cabinet should also resign to show responsibility for the country and society," senior legal adviser of the Democrat Party Wirat Kalayasiri said.

He added that he has never seen any other caretaker government in the world keep their jobs after their Prime Minister has been removed from the position.

"Look at South Korea. Their leader resigns just because a ship sank," Mr. Wirat said.

Democrat spokesperson Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said at the same press conference that other Ministers who survived the court's verdict should resign before the public demands them to do so.

"Today Ms. Yingluck is facing the same karma experienced by [former PM] Thaksin Shinawatra, but her minions are still bathing in happiness," Mr. Chavanond said. "Even though Ms. Yingluck has no power in the government, I believe other members of the Shinawatra clan still hold important jobs."

He added that the rest of the Cabinet should not "stubbornly" cling to their jobs or try to organise a new election on 20 July, citing concerns that more violent confrontations will break out if the poll goes ahead on that date.

"If they still want to have an election in this situation, I believe the Thai population will decrease by hundreds," Mr. Chavanond warned, referring to potential deaths from political violence.

Anti-government protesters backed by the Democrat Party previously surrounded polling stations and intimidated potential voters in Bangkok and southern provinces in the weeks leading to the general election on 2 February. Gunbattle even broke out between anti- and pro-election demonstrators in northern Bangkok.

The election was later invalidated by the same Constitutional Court in March.

Well I've read some dumb ass, insensitive comments on here but I think Khun Wirat takes the biscuit with this one. Of course a sense of honour is an alien concept to most

Thai politicians so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised. coffee1.gif

I agree.. I think this guy is a democrat.. what an idiot .. i support them but what an idiot.

And (dangerous) Peyton Place continues. With today's Constitutional Courts' s episode nr. 163. Anyone realises how deformed this country politics are? Ousting Thaksin in 2006 with tanks. Wasn't that abuse of power? I sincerely hope the supporters of Yi gluck strike back. And strong.

Meanwhile, as all these shenanigans keep going on in Thailand international mainstream media are busy reporting on elections being held in a number of places, including the world's biggest democracy India and even in South Africa while here in Thailand the struggle continues to stop one from being held. It looks farcical and ridiculous

I think the entire democrat party should resign , for being the worst opposition party in thai political history.

they are so desperate to get into power, they will play every dirty trick in the book and if all else fails pray for a judicial coup, truly pathetic politicians and they have the gall to urge the cabinet to resign ? unbelievable.

doesn;t matter though.... virtually no-one will vote for them next election

WRONG, they are the worst opposition party, because they DON'T HAVE ANY MORE dirty tricks up their sleeves to compete with their opposition, because the REAL PM in Dubai knows all the Democrats' tricks and is just laughing his "BEHIND OFF" at Abhisit's and Suthep's ridiculous attempts to lead a Bangkok-ONLY-Bangkok mob aka just 1/5th of Thailand into victory

So no matter, with lil' sis deprived from shopping and travel duties, no matter Election-Collection-failure.... the legacy of Shinawatra will never die....

The right thing for the Democrat Party to do is to stop acting like two-year old having a tantrum and to seriously contest the election in all constituencies on a platform they have published and made public. As they now stand, the Democrat Party has nothing to offer the electorate, no credible leader and are perceived as Suthep's lap dogs. As for urging the cabinet to resign, that is further proof of their lack of credibility and yet another self-inflicted wound. When will they learn?

Seconded with both sentiments.

Very tactless.

The nation is in crisis and the Democrat Party is trying to intensify the crisis by creating a political vacuum.

The CC gave the DP their cake but said they can't eat it so now comes the tantrum.

Abhisit meanwhile is like the high school tramp in the back seat of the car pushing away with one hand saying no no while grabing for the PM job with the other.

You have to ask yourself. How many PTP MP's resigned for indiscretions compared to Democrat MP's in a similar situation. 0 PTP against 4 Democrats. Who has more moral fiber?

Plus, the PTP party should stop acting like a two year old who has the ball..... and having a tantrum.

Especially when 'Teacher' has tried to explain the off-side rule to them countless times, and is now rather bored with their self serving rhetoric.

As Suthep has already said he no longer wants any part in future Thai politics

the the answer is

No he should not be made the new caretaker PM

Go ahead Khun Yingluck, use some foul language to reply that idiot Chavanond. You no longer have to be polite and diplomatic now. At the same time, do give Ahbisit back what he called you but with more venom and bite. You have hold back your frustration and injustice for too long.
