YouTube taps into Thailand’s content producers with localized site and partner program launch

Thailand is the latest stop for YouTube, after the Google-owned company introduced a localized version of its site and its YouTube Partner Program in the country.

The move will allow the company to work more closely with local content producers to help export their work across Thailand and the rest of the world. The company will also begin working with local advertisers to place ad spots inside content on Youtube.co.th.

Ariya Banomyong, who heads the company in Thailand, outlined the potential of the localized initiatives in a blog post:

We hope that bringing this program and the fully localized YouTube site to Thailand will help encourage more Thai talent to come online, and make it easier for Thai communities to find and fall in love with more local content.

This is great.
I there is a better self-education tool on Earth, I've yet to hear of it.
Very happy to see more Thais involved in the YouTube community.

It's just for censorship purposes. Will have to bypass it.

now when a video is posted by someone concerning thailand or its people, and someone takes offence (as youtube was banned for a few weeks / months after an incident), you know you can & will be traced back to you and sued or jailed

oh no, it probably means, as soon as someone access Youtube from here, everything automatically switch to Thai language, it would be extremely annoying.

Too many conspiracy theorists here for my liking.... go Youtube! Free education was never better.

Does that mean they are going to introduce forced video ads like they have in Western countries? :(

Yes, that's the general idea.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

They've had forced video ads (always localised Thai ones) for more than a year now when you watch YouTube in this country.

Really? Must be AdBlock removing them. I hope they won't make the use of adblockers impossible like most other streaming sites did. I know a lot of guys who are just using Youtube in their bars for the music. Would be quite annoying to hear ads in between or to download all the videos before the night.

This is great.

+1...Good news ...

I get a kick out of how many times I hear thai local talent ripping off an old Americam rock song melody or stealing the lyrics in places when they want to sound cool singing a few english words strung together. Its all over YT.

Reset IE and now I can view videos. It must have been a coincidence because my other computer worked fine with videos.
