Government looking to meet Army chief to discuss resolving situation

BANGKOK, 21 May 2014 (NNT) – The government is looking to meet with Army Commander-in-Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha this week in order to discuss the solving of the country's plights, according to Acting Prime Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan.

Mr. Niwatthamrong told reporters he had already received documents about the declaration of martial law from the Army chief. He indicated that the government viewed the development positively, as it would prevent potential clashes and damage.

He added that the government, like the military, strives to ensure order through non-violent means.

According to Mr. Niwatthamrong, although martial law has been imposed, the Constitution dictates that the government needs to continue carrying out its duty in administering the country.

The Acting Caretaker Prime Minister can say what he likes about who's in charge but we all know the real truth is that for now at least the military has taken over the running of the country from the Sandman.

Especially the government member that had to do with the assault rifles wil be looking forward to meeting Prayuth.

If there is a meeting we will soon find out if this is really a coup or the military are really intervening to maintain peace and order so that free and fair elections without disruption and intimidation may take place.

Tend to think the former as it looks like the new big boss enjoys his airtime and would like it to continue despite his protestations otherwise- but I hope not!

Sounds like Prayuth will be running the show until PTP and PDRC can come to negotiating table and forge a compromise! If not, if will be Prayuth who is running the show. An actual interim PM without the title.

Lets' hope very prompt payment of outstanding debts to the poor farmers is well up the agenda for whatever discussions.

Prayuth has already risen to the task and gone beyond Niwattumrong's initiative because Prayuth has just invited five representatives each from Pheu Thai, the UDD, the Democratic party, and the PDRC to a meeting in about one hour, along with representatives from the Election Commission and the Senate. Such a meeting would have been considered unthinkable a couple of days ago. All these people together in one room, with Prayuth officiating. That is what is supposed to happen. Posturing will never solve this. Only talking will. Did Yingluck ever arrange such a meeting ? No. Did Niwattumrong ever arrange such a meeting ? No. Prayuth has arranged it, which means that not only will everyone show up, but they'll behave as well. These people will finally be talking to each other. This is but the latest indication that Prayuth is sincere in trying to foster peace and stability in the country. This is how to do it.

The PM was not invited to the Prayuths meeting today, Prayith is going to cram an appointed establishment dictator down everyone's throat-most likly..my guess is the EC is going tpo be there just so they can say 'elections are not possible' like the military with all these troops out cannot protect a few voting booths so people can practice their democratic rights.. 'too dangerous' according to the dictators.. everyone has to accept an 'appointed' government that is to be appointed by a group of unelected senators that the military installed after the last coup.

The acting caretaker PM was not invited BECAUSE he has another meeting booked with Prayuth!

"Government looking to meet Army chief to discuss resolving situation"

Well, let me guess the topic in short:

"We want Election-Collection to proceed"

Army: "Lol"

Seems the red brigade on here never give up - any little point to regurgitate the same nonsense over and over.

Once a stable country / government is in place - what are they all going to do - they will have nothing to troll about.

IF THEY CAN'T SORT OUT CORRUPTION THIS COUNTRY IS DOOMED, NO MATTER HOW MANY MEETINGS THEY HAVE.

THEY WILL NEVER AGREE, LIKE SCHOOL BOYS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF LEARNING FROM PAST MISTAKES AND NEVER WANT TO SERIOUSLY DEAL WITH STEALING THE TAX PAYERS MONEY.

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD THE DSI IS INVESTIGATING AND THEN....................... YEP NOTHING, TILL ITS TOO LATE.

ANYONE ELSE TIRED OF THE BULL.

So he'd be the Actual Acting Caretaker Prime Minister of Thailand.

You mean like the CDR junta or the Abhisit debacle? You are an ignorant dreamer if you think any installed regime will be successful in the long run.
