NCPO calls economic meeting

4-21-2014-10-12-25-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) this morning summoned a meeting of members of the private and government sectors for discussion on economic matters and to set the economic guidelines.

The meeting was chaired by Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong, deputy chief of NCPO and air force commander-in-chief. Participants at the meeting represented the Thai Bankers Association, the Board of Trade, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Thai Industries, Stock Exchange of Thailand, the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Bank of Thailand, Budget Bureau, Commerce and Finance ministries.

Meanwhile Colonel Winthai Suvaree, deputy spokesman of the Army, disclosed today that the United States has downgraded the relations with the Thai military in protest against the coup in Thailand on May 23 by cancelling the joint military exercise and freezing the exchange of visits of senior military officers of the two countries.

The colonel said that the military had clarified to foreign military attaches based in Thailand about the need to stage the coup and was confident that the explanation would make them understand Thailand’s necessity.

Colonel Winthai said that democratic process in Thailand was different from that in the other countries because the process led to loss of lives, chaos and violence.

Love that comment after saying US downgraded relations..... obviously they talked, they gave their reasons - and the US did not..... and it will likely be the same with the other western countries.... but then westerners just don't understand thai way of doing things :P

The Air Chief Marshal who would not be an economist himself is enlisting the help of both private and Government economic agencies in order to help get the country moving.

Better I suspect than having a minister of white lies doing it all on his own.

M.P.R not farangs business.

The business of running a country has started in earnest, and this collection of agencies and economists is a very, very good start - in fact, head over heals above the closed door methods of the Yingluck administration - get some relative in charge who doesn't know a single thing about what to do, get the release of huge amounts of money that is later " distributed " under a cloud of mystery, and see the economy go through the toilet. So yes, this sounds very good by way of contrast. In terms of the West, if they considered the alternative - seven more months of administrative paralysis with no path out, continued grenade attacks against sleeping protesters, continued attacks against the independent agencies and the judiciary, and an administration that was defiant in the face of Constitutional Court rulings, one of which removed the prime minister and nine cabinet ministers for abuse of power - and if they compared that to what is happening now - the violence has stopped, terror plots are being discovered and stopped, peace has come back to Bangkok, the farmers are being paid, and the first steps to getting the country running after seven months of legislative paralysis have been taken. All in just three days. The West is philosophical opposed to the idea of coups for any reason, and that will not change. However, once the country has been running peacefully and smoothly for an extended period, once truly positive reforms are in place, and last but not least - a national election that is free and peaceful - then the West will likely grudgingly take notice at that. And perhaps realize that that would not have been possible otherwise.

Good to note that Scamper has recovered from the shock of the closure of the senate.

The senate is closed? Who makes the laws now then?

So the US had downgraded relations with one of it's military allies which means no more costly silly war games, fewer goodwill visits by the senior ranks to local karaoke bars and a reduction in the number of listening devices planted here in the interests of security.

Oh wait, this is supposed to be about the economy....?

Thailand is USAs spy center of SEA...so either the USA just making a bit of a show on cutting some unimportant things. Or Thailand can make some real nasty revenge by cutting the cables to these centers, or increasing the rental fee a bit.

Hopefully the military holds the finance and commerce ministry officials in detention until all the scandal for the last three years is sorted. It would be a shame to let those criminals get a chance to escape justice.

Remember, the US needs us more than we need them, we can do better by opening up relations in other countries closer to home. Call the bluff and see what happens.

It's that a task of the parliament which was dissolved on the 9th of December 2013?

Of course its just routine for show. The USA CANNOT be seen to support coups and the overthrow of democracy.

Despite it possibly being the lesser to two evils, basically they cannot give any hint of support. This is why these idiots criticising the Usa are very naive.

You really believe this? You think when push comes to shove Thailand will partner with China? Ooooooh, dear, my aching ribs. Any more naive comment I have not seen.

You are kidding yourself. And kidding others in the process. Thailand can be replaced...by many nations. If you want to keep your job, earn it.

Agreed, and he also left out the small matter the military did not protect the then elected government, if they had there would have been no loss of lives, violence or chaos. I am sure that the rest of western countries no exactly whats happening here, and because of the coup the likely hood of it recovering is rare as long as they are in power.

No in this case should be spelt "Know" did you knot know" cheesy.gif

Do we really care about such a minor thing as the senate doesn't have a role at the moment - the good general is leading from the front.

What he does point out is how swimmingly good things are going now with a very optimist view of how the economy will progress and also that normality has returned to the kingdom - in break neck speed time too!! Why oh why didn't he do this sooner!!!

Come on now, good news about the rice farmers getting their money??? Well, is that a good thing??

You are kidding yourselves if you think a military pundit is qualified to talk about investment capital and economics. What silliness.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions....

Also the military has got all of the organisations/departments responsible for different aspects of the economy together and they will collectively make the decisions based on the interests of the country and not their own.

It is just so refreshing what has happened i could cry!!!.

As you geuinely so naive/ignorant you think a group of bankers/stock brokers/industry leaders will act in the countries interest and not of their own!?

I genuienly pity people like yourself who seem to have so little idea of what this has all been about.

Whats important is that every day that passes Prayuth is moving forward to fix the problems the last admin created. Not just the protesters but everything. I hope they dont slack off and hit every aspect of running this country. Including the moral and ethical standards for people who want to run the country.

You have hinted at this in a few posts. So go ahead tell us all what it is really about.
