Saudi Arabia deaths from MERS rise to 282

Istanbul - The death toll from the MERS coronavirus has reached 282 in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Health Ministry said on Tuesday, raising the number from the previous figure of 190.

There have now been 688 confirmed cases in the kingdom since 2012.

"Although the (data) review led to discovering other confirmed cases that must be added, the number of new registered cases continued to decline over the past few weeks," Tareq Madani, president of the Medical Council Advisory Centre, said in a statement released by the Health Ministry.

The revision was a good sign that Saudi Arabian authorities had improved the monitoring of the disease, said WHO spokesman Glenn Thomas.

40% mortality rate. Better hope this doesn't go airborne.
