Man hurt as he attempts to avoid paying a bill at a Central Pattaya restaurant.

A bizarre story now from the Gongkorkan Restaurant on Pattaya Third Road. The manager of the establishment, Khun Pongsak called Police on Monday Night to inform them of a customer who had attempted to escape after failing to pay the bill.

Police arrived and found a Thai man who appeared unconscious lying on the ground outside the restaurant. He was not carrying any forms of ID. According to the Manager he had come to the restaurant with another man who claimed his father owned a Hotel in Pattaya. They ordered food and drink for themselves and others in the restaurant.

By the end of the night, the other man had disappeared leaving this man to pay the bill of 1,800 Baht. Before he was due to pay he made his way to the toilet and attempted to jump over a wall as he realized he had no money to pay the bill. As he did he fell badly and passed out. Rescue workers arrived and saw the man begin to convulse. He was taken to Hospital where he is now recovering from his head injury.

Police are now waiting to speak with the man and will give him every opportunity to pay the bill otherwise he will be charged.

I can feel for the guy. I've had a similar thing happen--Out with a friend and at the end of the evening we discovered that neither had anywhere close to enough money to cover the bill. Fortunately, the owner was nice enough to let us pay the next day (we lived nearby and had been frequenters of the place). It's embarassing to say the least!

Slightly OT - I stayed in the 5 star Krapiosky Hotel in Amsterdam, (you know the one?). I went out partying and spent all my money! Next morning I couldn't pay my hotel bill and my car was in their underground garage! So I said 'Just need to drive to get some petrol and then I'll check out'. So they let me out of the garage and I drove like crazy for the Belgian border......

But I did pay the hotel bill by bank transfer later...
