Where we live the police provide security for a cockfighting den that stages events every month and one of the serving officers in the police station even runs a small casino.

Rotten to the core.

Entirely agree that gambling should be legalised.

I believe that you are in violation of Thai law either by slander of a Government Official or by not reporting it the military.

How do known it your partners family gambling away their money and yours?

Well it's a good job you are nothing to do with the legal system then isn't it Harry.

Siam Legal have a careers button on their website, no need for you to press it.

I'm surprised Harry hasn't managed to get some "Jesus loves you" quote in his drivel, as per normal.

I would be surprised also if Jesus loved mrtoad.

Military raid foils opening of large casino in capital

6-21-2014-11-38-21-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

The military and police raid at a huge Baccarat gambling den in Meng Chai area Thursday has foiled its opening and forced the immediate transfer of a local senior police officer for negligence of duty.

However, the raid could not have been successful if it was not tipped off by the former massage parlour king who turned a party leader and former Bangkok MP Chuvit Kamolvisit.

Chuvit tipped off the presence of the casino a day before it reopened on his Facebook page as he vowed support for the policy of the military junta chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha to crack down on gambling drastically as the general saw gambling is original source of crimes.

He had been trying to expose the existence of this casino for some time but was never successful until when he tipped the casino was planning to open Thursday.

Proprietor of the casino was arrested Friday and now under custody by military personnel.

The proprietor is a businessman who owns and operates a golf driving complex named the Number One with a ports club locating within on the Soi Sahakan Pramoon.

Police said on casual inspection, the sports club looks as if it has been abandoned. Its boundaries are covered by fencing.

But when military and police personnel numbering more than 100 men raided the premises, they were amazed o discover that there was a large gambling den located within an area of approximately 1 rai. It was designed expensively as a flamboyant establishment rivaling foreign establishments.

The interior was decorated with luxurious furniture and fixings and complete with 50 gambling equipment such as 30 Baccarat tables, 10,000 packs of playing cards and gambling chips amounting to more than 3 million baht. All the assets have been seized but no gamblers were on the premises at the time.

Authorities found the casino to be brand new with new fixings and equipment.

Many rooms had been prepared to cater gamblers equipped with more than 10 closed circuit TV cameras. There are surveillance cameras that monitored movements both within and on the exterior of the establishment.

Pol Gen Aek Angsananont, the deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, said the owner of the casino is a businessman, but after his business folded, he made his foray into casinos.

Authorities had found that the layout of the casino was well planned out with only a single point for entry and exit and the exterior completely concealed with zinc roofing plates.

Closed-circuit TV cameras had been strategically placed from the mount of the Soi up to the car park.

More cameras had also been placed on thick foliaged trees to avoid detection and to give a clear vantage of the surrounding area.

Authorities are checking with the Excise and Customs department to ascertain if the gambling equipment had been brought into the country legally or otherwise.

Furthermore, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Wang is also pressing charges for illegal extension and modification to existing structures.

The sport club has not been in operation for more than five years and police have had many reports in the past, of the establishment being used as an ad hoc gambling den on many occasions.

On these occasions, the casino would open on some days and be closed on others to avoid attracting attention from authorities.

Its customers are believed to be well-to-do, wealthy individuals and the service personnel were mostly Cambodians who have all been arrested in Thursday raid.

It has been discovered that these foreign staff had extensive experience working in casinos and gambling dens in their home countries and had deliberately applied to work here at this particular establishment.

Police said they also have information on other gambling dens in the capital and are preparing to make seizures.

This will include the notorious mobile gambling facilities that employ a number of large passenger coaches that regularly operate on the Ratchada and suburban roads surrounding Bangkok.

If gambling is illegal how can the equipment be legally imported?

What a joke. "By the way Mr. Big, we will be at your establishment Friday the 28th to make a siezure. We will knock on the back door at 10:00pm. Please be so kind as to open the door for us".

"During the raid on Thursday, officials arrested 37 suspects - 23 Cambodians, 12 Thais and two from Myanmar. The suspects said they were hired to move the gambling equipment out of the premises but police arrived before they got the chance"

the delay in the cover-up was caused by the trouble they had rounding up enough Cambodian illegal workers to help out.....

Where I live I had six tyres stabbed in their sidewalls with either a needle or a dart. The pinholes could only be seen by pumping up the tyres and using soapy water, Some tyres had eight or nine pinholes so its a total of about fifty punctures. Because of the flexing of the tyre these punctures cannot be repaired so it is a large financial loss.

The police sergeant insisted that all six tyres must have perished and deflated all by themselves (all on the same day)

Crime FIGURES are falling so fast that these days there is almost no RECORDED CRIME over here!

One bad apple?, one bad apple? but actually it looks as if the entire barrel is bad.

There are some very uninformed posts on this thread.

Gambling is illegal in Thailand because

1. It goes against Buddhist teachings and

2. It provides a massive undeclared income for police, politicians and military officers.

When there is a change of government, this huge income stream in the black economy undergoes a change of path. Some people get cut out and get a lot less or nothing and some people get a lot more. One would imagine that station commanders, politicians, etc. close to the previous regime are being cut out of gambling profits.

I hope you are wrong on that Briggsy and that this really is the beginning of a genuine cleanup of the corruption that exists.

The data in this book is old - now quite old - however, the structures it describes are still very much in play (or so some say, i.e., I don't say because to do so isn't at all the done thing.)

I don't know why they don't just legalize gambling, Thais will gamble if its illegal or not.

Research King Rama V, and you will know why gambling is not allowed in Thailand.

This is a funny story, as to the best of my knowledge the police either run the

casinos or take a heavy cut to turn a blind eye . If the military really wants to gut

the income to the police, just have a private meeting with Chuwit, find out where

all the casinos are, and do raids using only police. This casino was clearly

tipped off, it is a funny mental image of a bunch of Cambodians frantically trying

to move out all the equipment after they got tipped off by the police.

This is just flat out hilarious all though one thing does puzzle me a bit and that is why would the RTP basically give kudos to Chuwit ( someone they most certainly have had issues with in the past ) huh.png !!!

It really is funny. In the past there were some threats made against Chuwit when he was exposing police involvement in gambling. He then made a public statement that he had a little black book full of high ranking people who had used his services. He also said if something untoward happened to him, the book would be released. And that was the end of that..... I swear to god, you could not make this stuff up. Truly Amazing Thailand...

From the original story:

" and forced the immediate transfer of a local senior police officer for negligence of duty."

This is consistent with every story I have ever heard about regarding casinos and the " Royal"

Thai police. The police go out in their area and shake down tailor shops. Does anybody in their right mind think the police would not know there was a major casino in their jurisdiction ?

We will find out who the owner is (after we take a bribe, and the owner can create documentation that proves he sublets the place to the Tooth Fairy).

Move along, almost nothing to see here.......the raid was still tipped off. But this time tables and equipment that can be made in any wood shop was confiscated -- which is a great cosmetic reform.

Yes it is noted by many worldwide organisations that the police in Thailand are amongst the worst for corruption and as we see here another slap for police bank accounts. Their inactivity during 2010 is going to cost them. The army is effectively asset stripping them so they have no power giving the army carte blanche to do as they wish

There was a story in the Bangkok Post a number of years ago, that estimated the police

income from various " activities" at about 25 billion baht. Sure it has gone up since

then. Also had a good friend of mine who lived here 20 years and spoke perfect Thai.

He told me that Thailand is basically carved up between the police and the military,

with each having their own sort of special areas where they made money. Clearly at this

point the military is stomping on the police. Whether or not these earners like casinos

are simply destroyed, or transferred to new hands will be interesting to watch..

Well if you look at it another way, the RTP are just ensuring that all those that need to know are in no doubt that Chuwit grassed them up. As soon as I read the OP the term 'dead man walking' kept making an appearance in my head. It seems the police are inviting everyone in gangland to take out the snitch, and the subsequent reaction will be "mm yes terrible but a lot of people wanted revenge because he told us where all the casino's are", as if the police didn't know already!!!

Just how difficult is it for the police and the undercover guys to identify and track mobile luxury coaches being used as casino's. If the punters have to find them and no where they are then the secret is definitely not safe!
