Meeting discusses 2 Million Baht’s worth of man-hole covers which have disappeared since January 2005.

Here on Pattaya City News we have reported on a number of occasions about the theft of Iron man-hole covers from around Pattaya City. This meeting at Pattaya City Hall was chaired by Khun Niran, the Mayor of Pattaya and was convened to discuss this persistent problem.

The Mayor announced that between January 2005 and May 2006 a total of 961 man-hole covers had been stolen from around Pattaya. 294 had been stolen from the Sukumvit Road and 667 had been taken from small Soi’s around the city at a total cost of 2 Million Baht which City Hall have had to cover. Out of these thefts only two individuals had been arrested so far.

The meeting discussed how the local Police and city security officers will work together in an attempt to combat this crime and also members of the public will be able to do their bit by calling a hotline to report any thefts in progress.

A reward of 20,000 Baht will be given to anyone whose information leads to an arrest and conviction. The hotline number is 038 427 960.

I claim the money !!!

It must be a gang of Ladyboys as they are the only ones I can think of with an unhealthy interest in man holes.

Who knows why manhole covers are always round?

(well maybe not here but everywhere else in the world)

Answer:

A round cover can not fall into the hole.

Simple really but all the new ones they put down here are square and constantly fall into the holes.

Maybe if they look inside they will find them at the bottom of the drain. :o

I dare say that the stolen covers are sold straight back to the council and more than likely get put back over the same manhole they were stolen from :o

And did the Police not find out from those arrested as to how and where they intended to profit from their crime?

Investigative journalism at its best yet again...! :o
