Immigration office closed; what do I do, please?

Featured Replies

First off, can I say that I have lived in Thailand for over nine years on a retirement visa.

I have never felt the need to learn and understand about visas as my Thai girlfriend has always taken care of the paperwork for me. So, please excuse my ignorance on the subject.

I have just booked a 10.40am flight to Singapore in a few days' time, on Tues 15th July. My return flight is on Friday 18th. It's a cheap flight and changes are not permitted.

When I booked the flight I thought I could go to the immigration office in Phuket Town on Monday with the form “APPLICATION FOR RE-ENTRY PERMIT INTO THE KINGDOM” which would allow me to come back into the country on Friday. Unfortunately, I have just realised that, because of a government holiday, the immigration office is closed on Monday. Yes I know: not very smart!

My question: How do I best deal with this cock-up?

I have seen reports that re-entry permits are available at the airport in Phuket when the immigration office is closed.

Not sure how that will help you.

Well, if re-entry permits are available at the airport they, hopefully, will realise there was not enough time for me to go to the office in Phuket Town before my flight on Tuesday morning - and grant me a re-entry permit.

I've tried phoning the two airport immigration numbers. No reply. In fact, one sounds like it's connected to a fax machine.

Thanks for the help, by the way.

It does pay to check this forum periodically:

Admittedly, I wasnt thinking of Phuket when I typed that up but it may have saved the OP some pain if he'd seen it and contacted the local immigration office. Hopefully the OP can get what he needs at the airport - would be valuable to know if that is the case.
