Drivers license renewal from 1 yr to 5 yr

Recommended Posts

I am due to renew my license from a 1 yr to a 5 yr next month here in Chiang Mai. It seems like I remember reading somewhere recently, that there has been a change in the testing/procedure to get a 5 yr license. Has anyone in the last month or so done this? Thanks

Does Chiang Mai immigration currently issue housing reports/residence certificates?

Also found on the paper they gave me yesterday:

Residence Certificate from Embassy or Consulate (valid for 1yr under Thai law from issue date)

or from Thai Immigration office (valid for 30 days from issue date((original and copy)

or Work Permit or Residence Book (Yellow book)(Original and copy)

I got my one-year yesterday and saw on a sign that stated there is one hour of training for the renewal. I assume that involves sitting in a room and watching a movie in Thai or listening to a Thai speaker; no test so no big deal, but you will need to allow time for it. You could also easily wait more than an hour to have the license made.
