Does anyone know how to go about getting a check?

I have written to Scotland yard but have had no reply as yet looked on line and a few searches come up esp where you pay extra fees to whoever you go thru.

Has anyone had the police check in UK and what was the procedure.. as I also notice there are 4 different ones you can get..

thank you

What do you need the check for?

It's a long time since I was involved in this area, but if you need disclosure, the old CRB Check, then only an employer who is registered can carry request it. https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/documents-the-applicant-must-provide-

If you just want proof of any conviction you have, or don't have, then you make a subject access request to the Metropolitan Police, that costs £10. http://content.met.police.uk/Article/Frequently-asked-questions/1400006036048/1400006036048

Yes, the CRB check is now DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).

Individuals are also able to obtain a basic check from the DBS / CRB’s Disclosure Scotland, you can only apply online if your current address is in the UK. http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/basicdisclosureonline/index.htm

(this service is only available from DBS Scotland, but anyone with a UK address is able to use it)

thanks for replies.. for A O visa..

will pop in then to police station...

thanks again..

If it's for an OA visa application to the Royal Thai Embassy in London, then from personal experience what you need to do is to submit a subject access disclosure request to your local police force. Full info on how you go about this is at http://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx - trotting down to your local nick will almost certainly prove a complete waste of time.
