My custom Super Cub

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

So, after years of being into the different Honda Super Cubs around, I decided this is probably better country as any to get one made up just to my liking.

After searching around, I found a foreigner on Facebook charging upwards of 50,000 Baht for a custom job. A little probing and a few google searches later I found the Thai gentleman he gets his machines off,

at almost half the price. He then does almost nothing to them and goes on to sell them for a ridiculous profit.

I contacted the Thai guy and currently have my own build in process, which I couldn't be more happy about. Not being ripped off to

the tune of 20 K + baht makes it even sweeter.

Anyone else into these awesome little machines? Would love to find others for the occasional ride or chat if they exist. Located around BKK.

Check the attached pictures for an idea of what I shall be receiving soon.

  • Sorry, I think my Honda Super-Cubs are prettier.

  • Look what arrived early?! I'm like a youngin' on Christmas Day. Only it's raining a lot outside, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow for my first adventure. (Albeit short until my plate/green book arri

I would love to see something more modern finished in a similar manner. Let everyone know if you go ahead with it!

Please show us the result.

I find those super cubs you posted very nice.

Many times the Thai "custom / modification / tuning" style is a bit too "busy" to my liking but this builder has a nice clean style, love those black rims.

I bet you can't wait for your bike to be ready :-)

End of the month I'll buy the powder blue one.

Just decided!

Thanks for the post.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely keep everyone posted. Looking forward for my new baby to be in my arms, so to speak.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll send you in the right direction. I'd rather give the Thai guy business than the foreigner get away with selling his bikes at a 100% mark up with no extra work put in.

I've chosen a Turquoise - ish colour. Stay posted, feel free to ask me any question.

Seeking like minded people about!

Also, this guy chucks a 100cc dream engine in there. So I won't be stuck with the standard 3 speed 70/90cc engine which are known for hating hills.

4 gears is a plus also!

Nice one Norman. Love the new cub, but I've already got a couple of newish bikes. Time to take it old school! Let everyone know when you get it.

You may want to be careful about breaking peoples rice bowl. But very nice work and a good looking bike

moderator cancel one of these, I keep getting that stupid message to wait 14 seconds before posting when I haven't posted in a day or two, then not sure if the last post excepted.

Yeah I'm not one to name names and completely understand that there are serious consequences for defamation in Thailand.

But I'd much rather support the man who has done the hard yards. The little guy. :) enough about that though.

Looking forward too it. Will try get build pics up if possible. I'll also make a video once it arrives so everyone can see it in action.

in a free market, i cannot blame someone putting a profit - although 100 percent - and sell something through his/her contacts.

Nothing wrong with that. Dont forget, some has no time or they might prefer to go with a foreigner on this for easy communication.

How long does it take to receive one from the Thai guy?

looking great; maybe you can make a small how to. Or a list of what you have done.

Keept it up!

Yeah all valid points there. Although the local guy was unaware which I thought was a little off. Ah well.

It takes about 3 weeks with a 5k deposit, full payment on completion.

I will show pictures and update as I can.

These look awesome, always liked the re-released Honda Dream.

The nice thing is the bikes above still look comfy to ride.

Every now and then I go to a Japanese book store and buy a scooter magazine.

Here's some camera pics of crazy Cubs from issue 11, Nov 2012 of 4MINI magazine.

i want to do something with my wave in similar fashion but more naked and metal plus with rectangular headlight.

here is my honda wave 125x - not my photo.

I am thinking of removing some of fairing completely including front cowl and headlight but not the taillight or side fairings.

Adding a rectangular headlight at front.

and getting some nice rims and quality tires - maybe bigger sizes and tires as the bikes OP posted. prefer grip than knobs of course. and sure a nice set of YSS shocks and a better spring at front.

engine upgrade to 180 - 200 cc, air filter, an aggressive cam, carb jetting. pipe on it is already modified and valve/piston are coming from sonic if i dont remember wrong.

and maybe painting the chassis nicely to red.

Simple, cheap and nice. let see though. nowadays very busy.

any ideas appreciated.

II2 that sounds awesome. Have you ever considered the bore kits from brands like Kitaco, Yoshimura? I see a lot of them about online, could be a cool, non obvious mod that would increase the power a lot.

I'd love to see one like yours done in a different style than the local boys do them - 1 million colours and skinny impractical wheels. Can't stand those things. Haha.

I have a 1969 Honda C50.

It has less than 10,000 miles on the clock and still has the brake shoes, light bulbs and air filter that it left the factory with. My father was the first owner and I am the second.

The original exhaust lasted 42 years before it rotted out. Other than a pattern exhaust the bike is standard.

Down a long hill with a following wind and well tucked in it will just about crack 40 mph indicated.

No green book but I only use it to go to the local Seven occasionally.

Any pictures floating around? Would love to see it. The one I'm having made up is a 1987 c70, with a dream 100 engine.

OP very nice man, I am also a huge fan of them old Cups.

Do you get a green book with it? This is very important if you like in Pattaya as I do.

I am tempted to do a similar project also, but if I do, I would do it the way II2 is, front disk brake and FI and so on.

Took some photos today but fathoming out how to put them up is beyond me.

If you send me a PM with E mail address I will happily mail them to you.

I'll send my address for you now and post them on your behalf if that's cool with you.

Here they are, his pictures. Please note they aren't mine! These pics are of In the Jungle's bike. What a beauty it is. post-195861-14087045084409_thumb.jpgpost-195861-14087045177857_thumb.jpgpost-195861-14087045294207_thumb.jpg

The stains on the petrol tank badge are because the original cork petrol cap seal (I kid you not) leaks a little. The seal from a Honda Dream is interchangeable but I quite like the idea of a cork gas tank seal.

The seat is the original 45 year old item with a steel seat base that weighs a ton. You can get Thai copies of the seat but the seat base is plastic and they have not got the fabric colours right.

Setting the ignition timing on this model is tricky. It is, of course, contact breaker ignition. It has no advance/retard mechanism and ignition advance is set by varying the contact breaker gap and then checking timing with a strobe. In Thailand, perhaps unsurprisingly, I do this job myself.

I have the original owner's manual for this bike. Back in the sixties Honda's translation to English wasn't too accurate. Throughout the owner's manual they refer to the engine as the "power egg"!

When I was a teenager I abused this bike terribly. I used to use it as a dirt tracker. It is a tribute to Honda quality that it survived.
