Jaysukh Sudra (seated) was arrested in Pattaya for falsely telling police that he was robbed by three Thai teenagers in attempt to claim insurance money, 4 Sept 2014.

CHONBURI — A British national was arrested in the popular resort town of Pattaya this morning for falsely telling police that he was robbed by three Thai teenagers.

Jaysukh Sudra, 48, filed a report to the Muang Pattaya Police Station early this morning claiming that three teenagers robbed him at knife-point near Soi Pattaya 2, taking his watch, mobile phone, camera, and 20,000 baht before fleeing the scene.

Police later accompanied Mr. Jaysukh to Soi Pattaya 2 to investigate the crime scene. However, CCTV footage and eyewitnesses' testimonies did not indicate that Mr. Jaysukh was in the area when the alleged robbery took place.

Doubts about Mr. Jaysukh’s testimony led police to search his hotel room, where they found all of the “stolen” items.

Mr. Jaysukh eventually confessed that he filed a false robbery report in an attempt claim compensation money for his insured items.

The suspect has been charged with giving a false crime report to police, which carries a maximum penalty of 6 months in prison.

Up to 6 months for a false crime report? Good to know. Better not to call the Police. Even in a emergency situation. Who knows...they could it interpret as a false report.

Why they not report him to his insurance, charge him with a hefty money fine for his attempt and let him go? If he isn't able to pay the fine, confiscate the alleged stolen items. Case closed.

More Brit crime tarnishing Pattaya's reputation. Hope they make an example of 'im.

Insurance swindler - 6 months in clink, fine, deported, blacklisted and make sure his insurance company know.

Now the Finnish drug dealer busted - that's a bit more serious.

No he should go to jail as insurance companies already don't trust these scams in Thailand from forangs scamming them

This effects all of us Brits and pushes our insurance up

Now he has made the paper make an example out of him.

Silly idiot should not have got caught

His choice if he cannot do the time should not do the crime

Risk assessment is that he could have made some small money but at very high risk

He failed and should pay the price

I get allot of problems from insurance companies and banks due to the amount of fraud out here

Now he is in the paper send a message back home

British National admits to deceiving Pattaya Police in street robbery case

uk-1.jpg

PATTAYA: -- A 48 year old British National was charged with providing a false statement to a Royal Thai Police Officer in the early hours of Thursday after he claimed to have been robbed, at knifepoint, in North Pattaya.

Mr. Jaysuka Sudra presented himself at Pattaya Police Station just before 2am and claimed to have been robbed at knifepoint by two Thai youths as he walked down Soi 2 towards Pattaya Beach after leaving his Hotel.

During the robbery he claimed to have been forced to hand over a wrist watch, 20,000 Baht in cash, a mobile phone and a digital camera with a combined value of approximately 100,000 Baht.

Police became suspicious after he started to change the version of events as a Police Report was prepared. Further investigations took place as Police attended the scene and spoke with people nearby the scene of the alleged robbery. They claimed to know nothing of the incident and did not see the complainant.

The first thing the police think when someone files a report like this is "insurance fraud".

+1 for them taking the time and effort to investigate the scene, witnesses, and CCTV report. Anyone who files a legitimate theft or robbery report will need to be patient with the police because they need to first verify that the claim is legit.

This perp was far too cheeky.

Well I think he is a Brit tarnishing the image of British people.

The image of Thailand and Pattaya is in the hands of the Thai people.

This is hardly the crime of the century, a regular fine and perhaps a missed flight home (which will cost a lot more than any fine) will be more than enough to deter most people.

What I really hate is when I read that the foreigner gets the maximum sentence almost by default whereas I suspect a Thai would never get the same sentence.

Does anyone actually know who the Judges are in Thailand ?

It's a sad day for real 'Brits' unfortunately

Love to hear your definition of "real" Brits.

Could be those who know which side their ancestors fought on in the war ( the 1642-51 war, of course) whistling.gif

It is absolutely correct that Brits with Asian names are very prevalent when it comes to insurance fraud.

Unofficial lists of risks to avoid used to appear on my desk when working as an underwriter and there was always an extremely high proportion of Singhs, Khans and Patels.

No different in the US, actually, where motels are notoriously bad risks.

That was a few years ago but things probably haven't changed.

Unfortunately this is what British people look like now. Give him the full six months.

This is because of "Brits glorious past".

or because of their "inglorious " politicians over recent decades ?

He has not been sentenced, he has been charged. Six months is the maximum he could get (if found guilty) once it has gone to court. The police are not judges.
