I have recently purchased a Denon PMA 495R amplifier with good bookshelf speakers.. I want to play the music on my computer's hard drive through this amp. I have connected the jack from the audio outlet on the back of the computer to the AUX inlets on the amp. Result: no sound. Can anyone tell me what is required. What I am doing wrong.I also want to play my Creative Zen in the same way.

Previously I had used one of the small power amp/woofer/speaker setups commonly available at IT centers. No problems there. I have seen stereo systems at some bars using a computer system instead of CDs.

Any help much appreciated.

Double check you're connecting it to the same socket you connected your cheap amp/woofer to at the back of the computer. Easy to make a mistake there.

Is the amplifier working properly? Try connecting a walkman to the same jack input and see if you get sound - if you do then there's somthing wrong with the output from the computer.

Thanks to those who offered assistance on this topic. I solved the problem eventually by checking the audio settings on my Asus motherboard sound effects system.

very simple as long as you know where to look. :o
