PATTAYA: -- Just before 5am on Thursday, Banglamung Police assisted Prison Guards at the Pattaya Remand Prison to conduct checks for contraband items in each of the 6 cell blocks.

Police and Guards began the raid as the inmates slept and checked each block and each of the cells which house a total of 4,300 inmates.

At the conclusion of the checks contraband items were put on display, which included a homemade Bingo set, unauthorized tools and knives, pornographic material and lighters, which are not allowed to be kept in the cells.

Didn't they search the prison not long ago?

Obviously doing it in the early hours yields better results, no warning issues as the informer was either in the karaoke or asleep (deleted).

I can see the Captain scratching his head and wondering why they find so much in the first cell block but nothing by the time they get to the 3rd one.

Because it is a surprise, he would think that only bad prisoners are in the first cell block.

As they shake awake the inmates and ask them ..... "What you do?"

The prisoners must really stink because the guards are all wearing masks.

There is little enough for Thai prisoners to do during the many hours they are locked up together. A home made bingo set or a pack of cards would both be regarded as contraband items because they could potentially be used for gambling. Only in Thailand could a bunch of people sitting playing a game be arrested and jailed. Given that prisoners are not allowed money inside a jail, it's hardly likely anyone would be playing bingo for high stakes. If prisons were regarded as indicative of a country's moral worth, Thailand would receive a very low rating.
