Draft water-management plan targets three priorities
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The draft water-management roadmap efficiently addresses three major problems. It is on track to be completed by the middle of next month.

Jatuporn Buruphat, director-general of the Water Resources Department, said yesterday that the draft plan, made in collaboration with the Irrigation Department, was making progress after public hearings on water-usage problems were held in the Northeast and South early this month.

The draft is projected to be submitted to the Water Management and Policy Committee, chaired by General Chatchai Sarikalya, the junta's deputy chief of economic affairs, by October 15.

If the plan receives approval, implementation will start next year.

The plan is a part of the National Council for Peace and Order's policy after it cancelled the Pheu Thai government's Bt350-billion water-management project in July.

The three priority areas are water quality, water shortages and disaster prevention.

Each region has unique issues. In the Northeast, water shortages are a major problem, while in the South it is flooding.

"As a result, we are setting out a suitable draft in response to the needs of residents nationwide," Jatuporn told a press conference on water preservation held at the department's office.

"As a result, we are setting out a suitable draft in response to the needs of residents nationwide," Jatuporn told a press conference on water preservation held at the department's office.

Am I understanding this correctly? The Draft water management plan for the needs of residents nationwide is going to be based on the premise that there is a drought in the Northeast and floods in the south?

Is there going to be another plan, or three or four, when that scenario turns out not to be valid?
