Four policemen transferred after gambling bust
The Nation

KHON KAEN: -- Four policemen, including a superintendent, have been transferred out of the police station in Khon Kaen's Nong Rua district after the exposure of a gambling den.

Pol Colonel Thanomsit Wongwijarn yesterday left his post as superintendent of Nong Rua Police.

Also slapped with transfer orders are his subordinates Lieutenant Samrit Bantao, Sub-Lieutenant Sawet Chudnork and Senior Sgt-Major Wichian Pimduangsri. The four are in inactive posts at Provincial Police Region headquarters.

A team of soldiers exposed the gambling den on September 18, arresting 37 suspected gamblers and seizing Bt310,000. Thanomsit allegedly tried to cover up the arrests, prompting a lieutenant-colonel to forward the case to a more senior police officer.

Lt-General Dejnarong Sutticharnbancha, acting chief of Provincial Police Region 4, yesterday said a fact-finding panel had been set up to look into the case. "We will ensure justice to all sides," he said.

Dejnarong said Khon Kaen deputy police chief Sudpises Ek-siri would serve as the acting superintendent of Nong Rua Police Station.

It's easy to fix all this and just build casinos.

Thais are heading over the border to hand over their hard earned so why not legalise it and build casinos like the ones in Singapore and genting highlands with themes parks golf courses etc.

It will reduce the illegal dens attract more tourists and and the taxes they earn off this can be ploughed back into the economy instead of missing out on one of the biggest money spinners of all time.

Is this the same gambling den that had some money and cars "disappear" after a raid that may or may not have happened? There were photos of the money in the press, but it was all denied by the police.

The old truism that "the only thing the Thai police are afraid of is the Thai army" may be holding true, with good reason.

Should do what they do in a lot of western countries.

Police caught breaking the law get much stiffer sentences than regular citizens.

But here??....... hahahahaha

Never in a million years. This is all part of Thainess.

No wonder the joke organisation known as The BIB is so corrupt, that don't sack officers , even after a stunt like that.

To serve (their master) and Collect.

Transfer - No, Suspension - Yes and a criminal investigation into Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice plus other potential charges the background to which must be obvious.

If I had sufficient funds I'd buy shares in a paint manufacturer as Whitewash is a major product here.

Say what you want about the army's occupation of Thailand but at this point in Thailand's "development", it is obvious that a strong army influence is sorely needed. It is painfully obvious that the police in Thailand CANNOT be trusted AT ALL! They have made a complete mockery out of the law. The Thai police is more of a mafia organization than a law enforcement organization.

Well after the investigation is finished and if the cop's are proven guilty which is quite possible, Why not try something new, INSTEAD OF THE FAMOUS TRANSFERS TOO INACTIVE POST'S, HOW ABOUT THROWING THE BLOODY THEIVES IN GAOL,

Why the hell do any government employee have this get out of gaol free card? (inactive post) where's the deterrent? they are not above the law, but for to many years that is exactly how they see them selves and how they are treated, even after being exposed as nothing but self serving thieves.

And I thought that embezzlement would be against the law?

There are good cop's out there, and this lot make them and the country look bad.

In one hand you have the new Prime Minister stating, "we must stamp out corruption". In the other hand, he is the only one listening.

Nothing will ever change in Thailand. It is like beatdeadhorse.gif

The cons of legalized gambling far outweigh the pros.

Finance minsters in all developed countries have discovered that you cannot stop gambling or drinking so you may as well regulate and tax it, especially the tax it part.

Ok boys take a deep breath, have the offending cops been charged with a crime yet, have they been found guilty of that crime yet. I believe the answer to those are a no. What is it with a few folks that if in Thailand you are guilty until proven innocent especially if you are a cop. Even in the states cops being investigated for a crime or typically off work with pay until the investigation is complete

Transferred not charged with criminal violations, fired, pensions denied, and corruption charges. Transfer - it's a joke.

I will give one million baht to the next farang that gets caught gambling if they tell the judge "they'd like the same punishment as the police and be transferred to another post"

Take the money and run - to the nearest inactive post (but only when caught) = Thainess.

I could not agree more. Well said. Thank you.

not sacked?

Might be best to wait until they have been investigated, prosecuted and found guilty of wrongdoing first, eh?

They are being investigated. If found guilty all the things you propose should follow.

True. But what offends is the mindset involved; that they can ignore crime (for payment), deny that a well documented event never happened, and expect to get away with it.

And that is with another security force involved. What chance would a normal citizen have of seeing justice in a police-involved crime?

Great to see the Military doing a much better job of "policing" than the actual Police are.

Mind you, I can understand that the RTP must be quite busy shaking people down again now as a lot of their "protection" has disappeared or been transferred to yet another inactive post over the past few months.

not sacked?

transferred is bad enough.....their main income is gone.

Well it seems I was to quick to condemn the BIB, my bad, but with just cause.

I don't think you see it in the news but possible, I just heard from a rather reliable person that the police don't the cash but the other guy's in uniform have all of the cash and some of the cars, and some cars are back with owners, as the owner of the gambling den is protected, but the soldiers didn't get that message until after the raid, and photo's and now the finger pointing, but maybe the cops will just have to wear this one because the other boy's have a mate in government.

The stupid thing is that they still took the cash n cars after the photo's were takenblink.png What the???

And they say we descended from the tree's, if that's the case then these guy's just fell too a lower limb.w00t.gif

Mr Politically Correct!

For crying out loud, the raid and the handover of evidence was all filmed by a local news crew!!

Are they part of the conspiracy too?? As for the soldiers, who did the police's job by conducting the raid, are they all imagining??

For too long time the Thai police has gotten away with even more serious crimes, because they consider themselves untouchable.bah.gif

Right on, a good first step. Lets see how things progress. thumbsup.gif

I do recall we had quite a number of spectacular years when both a prime minister and a deputy prime minister were from the police force...
