"Increased pleasure for the sex workers." The motorcycle boyfriends and husbands won't be too happy to read about that since the girls usually like them to believe that it is only business.

You will never understand asia! Prostitution is a normal profesion... Do you think you do different? Some people rent out their strong hands, others their knowledge, some their beauty... Prostitutes rent out their body and I see no problem in that. Do you think skin doctor should be treated with less respect because he touches your penis? hahaha

Even more! Ask thai girl who may sleep with you for money, to go to cinema or go drink some coffee ;) you will be surprised... They will refuse as they do it only with person they love (they do not rent their feelings, only body). I know girl who slept with guy for 1500 but refused 9000 bath only for cinema...

"The Public Health Ministry's Disease Control Department has pushed for the scheme, which deputy department head Dr Somsak Atthasil described as a world first."

Handing out condoms only just discovered by Thais is now a world first? They are kildding! Australia has been doing this for about 30+ years.

"If its not on its not on" or they could use our condom man poster?

Free Condoms and education will help prevent disease and pregnancies.

New idea, worlds first ! He has got to be kidding. As a young Royal Navy rating back in the 50's, i could always reach out as i mounted the gangway of my cruiser and grab a few free condoms if i wanted them before going ashore.

Or for the longer voyages - grab them on the way back on to the ship. After 40 days everything is legal, apparently.tongue.png

The operation of Senator Mechai, on soi 12, is excellent. His restaurant Cabbage & Condoms, passes out condoms with each bill. He also has gone around to local entertainer areas and pass out condoms.

A very honourable gentleman.

Funny how they accused Mark (Abhisit) of being British...

"A study also found that only 40 per cent of teenagers used condoms during sex, which caused unwanted pregnancies and the spread of diseases."

Someone needs to check their english. The word "which" is connective like the word "and", giving the meaning to the statement as "condoms caused unwanted pregnancies and the spread of diseases." And just because 60% of teenagers who did not use condoms does not mean that all became pregnant or spread diseases. This is an amateur article at best.

Also, while the lack of a condom may lead to an unwanted pregnancy (ie., there has to be an egg to fertilize within several days of intercourse), there are a variety of inexpensive (as little as B50) and effective "day-after" chemical abortion pills available at almost every pharmacy. If taken within 72 hours of intercourse, no pregnancy.

Morning after pill is ~75% effective, not 100%. See wiki

'Somsak said most Thai parents were reluctant to accept the sale of condoms via vending machines in schools ...' He sounds surprised. He shouldn't. I, for one, do not appreciate government interference in my bringing up my child.

Like statistics and lies, there are parents, damned parents ... and busybodies. By and large, it's the job of parents to talk their kids through the Q&As of sex, not the PHM.

If they really want to make a difference, involve the parents right at the outset, consult with them, and make no moves without consensus.
