It went from OMG on the tragedy, to a joke because of how the Authorities are handling this investigation and then to throw in the Minister of Tourism into the mix who seems to have some sort of weird say so in this investigation to just pure sadness that the Authorities have screwed up this investigation so badly that an amateur studying a Dummies Guide to Murder Investigation could have done a better job.

Constant CONTRADICTIONS, which I would have assumed they would have caught on and began to watch what they say to not stir up more problems, but it is clear that they do not learn from their mistakes.

Here's a quote from today's article:

"Meanwhile, on Koh Tao Island, forensic officers from the 8th Region Police have gathered no less than 40 DNA samples from foreign labor as well as local Thais to compare to those found on the body of the deceased."

So, they've only gathered NO LESS THAN 40 DNA SAMPLES huh...who has read that they've gathered 200+ DNA samples throughout this investigation? Now it's no less than 40...

The authorities have screwed this up so bad that nothing they do will make up for it. Unless, if they decide to be transparent and bring in a third party, such as the FBI or Scotland Yard to confirm their findings.

..."he stated that there was no credence to the rumors that there were mafia in operation on the island"...

The deputy pm fits well into the investigation. There's mafia in all tourist destinations.

And then there's good old Panya: "He"..."was confident that the police have acquired all the necessary evidence to accurately identify the suspects." Again??? "All that remain was for at least two witnesses to come forward to make the case a solid one." That can be arranged. Where and when does he want them?

How utterly helpless the RTP are. It's not even hilarious, just terribly saaddening. Especially for the families of the victims. I will never ever go to Koh Tao.

Not ever going to Koh Tao because of this is ridiculous. Every Thai island has some form of Mafia so maybe you should just leave Thailand. It's still safer here than anywhere in Europe or the US...Heinous crimes happen everywhere...Corruption is also rampant everywhere.Perhaps the politicians and police are so good at it in the West that they haven't been caught yet!!!
Can't actually remember when two tourists were hacked to death on the beaches of Southern France or the Californian coast. Anyway you obviously think it is perfectly safe to go to Koh Tao with these maniacs still on the loose. Go ahead, make my day.

The US is a far more dangerous country for tourists in regard to violent crime, than Thailand.

"In 1991, 35,000 tourists were either mugged, raped, or robbed in Florida and since then its gone up." is one statistic, although it really refers to "visitors" rather than just bona fide tourists. However, a more precise figure is "In the last 12 months, nine tourists have been killed in Florida." (1993)

http://www.fumento.com/crime/florida.html

Either way, making out Thailand to be some kind of murder capital for tourists is just wrong.

As a tourist, would you feel safer in the USA or in Thailand? If you say Thailand...why?

Your statistics may be correct, but take a look at the size of the USA or Florida compared to Thailand.

As for me, I have called Thailand my home for over 9 years now. I recall many conversations with my family where I stated that I would never leave Thailand...I love it too much. I still have a warm feeling in my heart for Thailand, but after this KT tragedy and the incompetence of the Thai Authorities, I now find myself thinking about potentially moving to Singapore...not just for my sake, but mainly for the security of my wife and daughter. I hate thinking like this because I really do love Thailand, but I will not feel safe until many things change in this country and corruption begins to be tackled. I feel like I was living here blindly...not wanting to see the real dangers, but this KT situation has really opened my eyes. I really, really hate this feeling since I had made my decision to stay forever and now...

I couldn't agree more - I will never go back to Thailand after this.. Its not even about suddenly feeling unsafe - its more the can of worms its opened (that let's face it when you've lived there - you know its there but you just stick your head in the sand about it) all the dark and disgusting things about the country are just there for all to see: the corruption, the racism, the violence - the whole thing has left a very nasty taste in my mouth and I will never return.

Murders happen in every country in the world and very gruesome one's at that. Thailand is no different.

The murders on Koh Tao were hideous but could happen anywhere in the world...anywhere. BUT I would suggest the police investigation in any CIVILISED country in the world would be thorough and professional.

Race, creed, color or wealth should never come into any police investigation.

The attitude of the RTP and the Junta government to this incident is insulting and appalling.

Has Thailand's worldwide standing and reputation ever seen at such a low ebb?

And if Jack the Ripper had operated in Thailand rather than Whitechapel the Thai police would still be saying that an arrest was imminent (even if he had to be exhumed).

No Thai Mafia? No Thai Mafia on an island? No Thai Mafia in any tourist destination?

No Thai Mafia....

Well, I feel better now. Now I am going to go to Pattaya and rent a jet ski, then go to Khao San road and look for a jewelry dealer, then go to Bangkok immigration and look for a taxi.

Whew, I am SOOOOO relieved....now.

Since the jewelry of H wasn't taken, it sounds like the motive wasn't robbery to begin with. The police has claimed that main motive was "sexual", but considering the damage done over H, there must be something more, related to deep hatred - so I'd argue about the main motive not being purely of a sexual sort. It had to have prior circumstances that led to this. If someone is about to rape a victim, without any other "feelings" towards the victim than sexual, he surely will do so with lesser amount of violence than seen here and get away on the easiest - by leaving the victim alive, or strangling her. Not by bashing the head in such brutal manner, not to mention other more minor injuries seen on H's body. Considering level of brutality towards H, it's obvious that she was the main target of hate, and the deed, rather than D.

Since it was stated, that two raped H before beating her to death, while another watched: "Police say that two men took advantage of her while one other watched" Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2773406/Thai-police-investigating-murder-British-tourists-hunt-three-men-revealing-two-men-raped-female-victim-believed-watched-attack.html#ixzz3EnRNC3L2 Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook, a plausible scenario would be, that the one that watched either A) didn't want or didn't have guts to take part on it all the way or B ) was some sort of a "boss figure" for the two mobsters, perhaps the one who ordered them to assault H (and D in the process), perhaps in means of a revenge and humiliation of some earlier event, but didn't want to get his "hands dirty" by actually doing the deed himself.

Looks like thai police and authorities might be "face-saving" by dropping numerous "we will arrest the suspects soon"-statements for the press, including face-saving phrases with each of them, such as: "it was farangs who did it, it was burmese who did it, the tourism didn't suffer, special events upcoming when the case is solved", and as the most bogus of them all "there is no mafia on the island". Seems to me that they are dropping favourable headlines for the press, because many people will remember the headlines, and judge the case by them, nevermind an actual end-result. Many will remember the headlines, and forget about the actual murders long before they are actually solved (if ever).

Of course there is no Mafia in Thailand.

Attached two pictures that will prove this to you. One is of a real Mafia guy and the other is of a normal Thai guy. See the difference? The Thai guy looks no even close to a Mafia guy. So therefore, there can not be Mafia in Thailand.

Case closed and no more need to talk about Mafia in Thailand!

You appear to despise fellow TV members for commenting on this utterly shambolic investigation. Yet you have probably made more posts than anybody else , each one a staunch defence of the RTP . What convinces you that your contributions are intelectually worthy whilst the vast majority are in your view garbage ?

Hi , without wanting to question your sincerity , I do feel that it would be a courtesy to Hannah and David and their families , and help keep this investigation alive if they were referred to in name rather than allocated letters of the alphabet .

On the contrary, there have been some excellent posts made on this thread and other by TV members. I only offer a counterpoint to some posters. I have never suggested or accused others of being a troll as seems to be quite a popular pasttime of many who happen to disagree with someone. Its a weak and lazy defensive tactic.

Why do I support the RTP? I would not call it support, I simply point out that the RTP has shown many times they are capable of good policing skills. For instance, there are four other threads going right now of violent crimes and the RTP have suspects and confessions in each of them.

So a more fitting question would be why do some TV posters criticize the RTP with every single breath and make claims that are easily disproven by the facts?

Meanwhile, on Koh Tao Island, forensic officers from the 8th Region Police have gathered no less than 40 DNA samples from foreign labor as well as local Thais - Thai PBS

Last week, Thai PBS wrote that 300 DNA samples were taken on the island and the police were still waiting on the results of 100 of them.

Pol. Lt-Gen. Panya Mamen, the commissioner of the 8th Region Police, meanwhile said that the police have examined video footage from more than 200 closed-circuit TV cameras and have questioned people in the immediate vicinity of the murder scene as well as making thorough checks on people who have entered and left the island during the time of the crime.

That's strange. When asked about the footage edited out of the footage of the running man from the Intouch Bar's CCTV, police said it was the private property of the bar owner, (headman's brother), so they couldn't request it. Just before the edited out portion, the shadow of another man is seen in front of the runner and the edited portion with absolute certainty would have shown the second man clearly. So it is unclear what footage they were able to obtain from the 200 CCTVs, if it depended on the owners' discretion whether they wanted to hand it over either in full or expurgated version, or not. A strange way of conducting a police investigation.

I wonder how is getting on with his thorough checks on people who entered and left the island during the time of the crime.

On the morning the bodies were discovered we had 20+ people leave our resort to go to Koh Tao, and nearly that number arrive from Koh Tao.... no one has come to me and ask to see our books. Yeah really thorough investigation.
