BANGKOK, Oct 2 -- Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan will visit Thailand's southern border provinces tomorrow to inspect responses to violence in the region.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha gave assurances that the replacement of the National Security Council secretary-general will not negatively affect reaching a solution in the south.

Gen Prawit said yesterday that he would visit the far South on tomorrow as the prime minister assigned him to supervise the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center. He will discuss effective solutions with the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC).

Gen Prawit also said that the head of a peace negotiation team to talk with representatives of southern insurgency movements has yet to be appointed and that ISOC and the government would appoint the person.

After the appointment of Anusit Kunakorn as new secretary-general of the National Security Council, Gen Prayut said that the cabinet approved the appointment as other concerned authorities had proposed and the appointment would not have any negative impact on southern solutions because he oversaw them himself.

Meanwhile, today a bomb placed in a cooking gas cylinder exploded as eight soldiers were patrolling a teachers' route in Narathiwat province but no one was injured because the blast went skyward.

Estimated at 20 kilograms, the bomb was planted on Yi-ngo-Rueso Road in Joh Boh sub-district of Yi-ngo district. (MCOT online news)

Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, has promised his people that all violence will stop in the South by 2015 and the situation will be resolved.

I hope this is the beginning of negotiations in the South and not just empty words from the good General.

Wonder why Yingluck, when she was defense minister, never visited the South...

"never" !!! Won't hurt if you checked before you post. She did in 2012 and following year.

I'm sure, the problems in the "restive" south could easily be solved.
Just appoint a Muslim General from the South as Defence Minister.

No more problems In the south. coffee1.gif
